married his high school sweetheart, Denise Lynn Hubbell and began working for Fiat Allis in Beardstown, and later in
Wichita, KS. In 1983, Norm returned to Amboy to join his father-in-law in business as the Hubbel and Ross garage. In 1997, Norm and his "girls" joined together to build the present family home near Elburn. For the
last ten years he was employed with the Navistar (International Harvester) Corp. where he helped design the first camless diesel truck engine and was honored in New York City as well as in national trade journals.
For all of his achievements, however, Norm Ross was all wrapped up in his love for his wife and four daughters. He and Denise were foster parents to as many as ten children before they were blessed with
Jessica, Amanda, Ashley and Stephanie. Four super-daughters whom Norm proudly said he would never trade for a son.
Norm always had a project on his mind and a smile on his face. He was outgoing as a member of the
Amboy Lion's club for many years and was recently honored for some fifteen years as the Saturday morning radio host for the Lee County Tourism program on WSDR Radio.
Through the years he was also an active member of
the Geneva United Methodist Church the Cornerstone United Methodist Church, Plato Center and R.E.A.C.H., a Christian Youth Work Camp.
At home, Norm owned the bragging rights on the
best pumpkin pie in the world. He also owned enough cotton candy and pop corn supplies to retire as a full time "Carni", a "someday-dream" he often spun for his daughters. Although he left this world far to soon
, those who knew him best are sure that he is re-engineering heaven and inventing a way to turn the clouds into a sky-full of cotton candy.
Survivors In addition to Denise, his wife of twenty-five years, Norm leaves four daughters -
Jesisca (20), Amanda (14), Ashley (12) and Stephanie (9);
• his parents, Richard and Dorothy (Barta) Ross, Amboy, IL,
• one brother-in-law, Marvin (Deanna) Hubbell of Springfield, IL;
• one sister-in-law, Connie (Roger) Young of Woodstock, IL;
• several nieces, nephews and cousins;
• and countless friends across the country.
