Date of Birth

April 26, 1950

Date of Death

January 31, 2022

Alan Svihla, age 71, passed away unexpectedly, January 31, 2022, but was surrounded by the love and prayers of his family as he entered into Heaven.

He was born April 26, 1950 in Berwyn, IL, to proud and loving parents, Edward and Beatrice Svihla.

Alan grew up in Bloomingdale, IL, and attended local schools.

Alan met Sandra Kluge through a mutual friend and it didn’t take long for sparks to fly. They continued to celebrate their relationship as they joined their hearts at the altar on April 24, 1976 (a date specifically chosen close to his birthday because he was so bad at remembering dates).

Alan worked several different jobs early in his career, but found his place as a volunteer fireman in 1972 for the Bloomingdale Fire Department, and was one of the first to sign on full time when the opportunity presented itself. Alan dedicated his life to  his community until his retirement in May of 2008. Following his retirement, he took advantage of the peace, quiet and relaxation.

He was past president of the pension board for the Bloomingdale Fire Protection District Number 1.

He loved to spend time outdoors and work in his garden. When the fish cam calling, he dropped his tools and made many a trip to northern Wisconsin and Minnesota where he made memories (or stories) with every cast. Alan played football in his youth, but also was enthusiastic about football pools in his later years. He and Sandra competed on a local volleyball team in later years and both knocked down pins in a bowling league as well, ringing up strikes as often as they could.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Sandra Svihla; one brother, Edward (Elinor) Svihla; two nieces: Evonne (Scott) Lavigne and Elaine (Ed) Malone; three grandnephews, a grandniece, and a family of close friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Beatrice Svihla and one sister, Leatrice Svihla.

His family will host a memorial service when the weather turns as warm as the memories they cherish.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the American Heart Association, at www.heart.org, or the American Kidney Foundation, at ww.kindeyfund.org. Memories and tributes may  be left on the Conley Funeral Home Facebook Page, or at www.conleycare.com.
