Anthony A. Faber, 85 of Virgil, IL, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at his home, early Friday morning, January 2, 2004.BORN He was born April 14, 1918, in Burlington, IL, the son of Andrew and Mary (Berkes) Faber.CHILDHOOD / EDUCATIONAnthony grew up in the Burlington/Maple Park area and attended S.S. Peter & Paul Schools in Virgil. MILITARYIn 1942, entered the U.S. Army where he served until 1946 when he returned to Virgil and began working as a carpenter for his future father-in-law, Robert Butt.MARRIED / EMPLOYMENTOn May 21, 1949 he was united in marriage to Mary Butt at S.S. Peter & Paul Church Virgil were they farmed for many years with Tony’s father, Andrew.. In 1971 Tony retired from farming and began working for Alumax Mfg. , St. Charles. Retiring from Alumax in 1986, he and Mary moved back to Virgil where they have since made their home. MEMBERSHIPTony was a life long member S.S. Peter & Paul Church, Virgil, and a member of the Maple Park American Legion Post #312 for fifty-four years.LIFE NOTESEvery year, he planted a huge garden which often caused passers-by to stop and ask Tony’s advice. The garden’s bountiful harvest, however, was a project Tony assigned to his family. Faithfully, they canned and froze seemingly truckloads of vegetables every year.Tony was also "a keeper" of all things "useful". When the church remodeled, it was Tony who brought home many odds and ends he thought might be useful some day. He was also the "manager" of the Virgil recycling program and often brought home treasures that others had discarded as "trash". SURVIVORS He is survived by his wife Mary of Virgil, six sons:William (Laurie) Faber of ElburnThomas (Teri) Faber of Maple Park, Michael Faber of SycamoreDonald (Patricia) Faber of New River, AZ,James (Renda) Faber of Havelock, NCPaul (Jamie) Faber of Batavia, three daughtersPatricia (Kenneth) Probst of Virgil, ILBarbara (Richard) Jump of Maple Park, ILDiane (Dale) Goscinski of Elgin, IL, twenty grandchildren and four great grandchildren.four siblingsLawrence "Tuffy" (Polly) Faber of Maple Park, ILJoseph Faber of Maple Park, ILTherese Hermann of Sycamore, IL andMary Johnson of Kaneville, ILmany nieces and nephews as well as a community of friends and neighbors.PRECEDED Tony is preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Mary Faber, his daughter Margaret "Mitz"Faber in 1988 and one son David Charles; one granddaughter Brandy Probst, three sisters: Madeline Sibley, Rose Bertram and Margaret Faber and one brother, Henry Faber. VISITATIONVisitation will be held at S.S. Peter & Paul Church, Virgil, IL, Monday, January 5, 2004 from 3-8pm and Tuesday morning from 9:30am until time of mass. SERVICESHis funeral mass will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30am from S.S. Peter & Paul Church. The Rev. Fr. Les Eschevia will officiate
