Date of Death

January 3, 2022

Betty Mitchell, age 74, of West Chicago, passed into eternity with her Savior, January 3, 2022, surrounded by the prayers of her family.

She was born February 3, 1947, to loving parents, Clifford and Mary Larson. Betty grew up in Lombard and attended Glenbard East High School.

She met Donald Mitchell in the halls of her high school. Before he left to answer the call of his country in the United States Army, they were united in marriage in December of 1964. He returned to civilian life and his blushing bride, making a home in Addison, IL. The family grew by two when they were blessed with two sons, making the family complete. They made the move to West Chicago in the early 1970’s. Eventually, she and Donald went their separate ways but always held the love for the boys close to their hearts.

Betty worked part time at Alton Drugs in West Chicago while the boys were in school. In later years, she worked locally for a time before finding a home and working family at Walmart for the past 17 years.

Betty was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lombard.

In her younger years, Betty enjoyed knocking down ten pins in the local bowling league, “The Sunshine Girls”. Her home was humble but full of love for her boys. Betty made sure she was cheering the loudest at all the Little League games and was a huge supporter of the sports boosters. Later, her grandchildren became the apple of her eye and found a forever home in her heart.

She is survived by her two sons: Donald, Jr (Susann) Mitchell and Gary (Michelle) Mitchell; four grandchildren: Madison, Savannah, Dylan and Grace Mitchell; one sister, Linda (Walter) Ebel; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a family of friends who will miss her dearly.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Mary Larson; her former husband, Donald Mitchell, Sr.; and a special cousin, Carol Pienschke.
