Cornelius F. Phalen, age 80 of Maple Park, left our world in the early morning hours of Friday, February 24, 2017 comfortably at his home.

He was born into this world on Sunday, September 20, 1936, the son of Edward Lawrence and Mary Catherine (McDonald) Phalen in Aurora, IL. After graduating from N.I.U. with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, he spent the next 30 years at Bristol Equipment until his retirement. He was a proud veteran, serving his country in the United States Navy, on the U.S.S. Compton, a naval destroyer.

He leaves behind his loving wife; Jacqueline Phalen, 3 daughters; Therese Marie (Don) Diederich, Mary Ellen (Jason) Pittman, Lori Ann (Dave) Swanson, two step-daughters; Heather Shepard and Julie Shepard and grandchildren; Cathy (Lance) Diederich Hansen, Ryan Pittman, Beth Diederich, Christy Diederich, Emily Diederich, Derek Swanson, and Blake Swanson.

Cornelius now joins his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

In celebration of his life, the family will host an open house on Sunday, March 12, 2017, at his home in Maple Park, IL, from 2-5 p.m. A committal service will be Monday, March 13, 2017 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Rd., Elwood, IL 60421. Please arrive at the Welcome Center inside the cemetery at 11:45 for a prompt procession within the cemetery, for a service to begin at 12 p.m., sharp. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to PetsForVets.com and to H.E.L.P., HelpingAnimals.org in St. Charles, IL.
