Dennis “Denny” Richmond, age 72, of Elburn, fought the good fight and won the victory of everlasting life on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2018, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family.
He was born June 29, 1946, in Aurora, IL, the son of proud parents, Raymond and Madeline (Rieseck) Richmond.
Denny grew up in Aurora and attended local schools. He graduated from West Aurora High School with the class of 1964.
Denny continued his education at Missouri Valley College in Marshal, MO, and graduated in December of 1969.
While on campus, Denny caught the eye of Kathy Staver and soon gave her his heart. They would marry in September 7, 1968. They began their new life together in North Aurora but only got to make eight months of memories before Denny was drafted into the United States Army. He served overseas in Vietnam where he served as member of the artillery. He was honorably discharged and returned to his loving wife in December of 1970. Denny and Kathy made their home in North Aurora for a time before moving to the Elburn area in 1978.
Farmers Insurance group hired Denny right out of college and it wouldn’t be until 2006 that Denny would leave the world of insurance. After retirement, Denny focused on his life at home and dedicated untold hours to his beloved American Legion, Post 630, in Elburn.
Denny was a faithful member of Bethany Lutheran Church as well as his continued loyalty and membership to the Elburn American Legion.
Denny loved the outdoors and spent as much time in it as he could. Whether it was out in the woods, utilizing his camper, or just mowing the lawn, the sunshine called to his heart. He had a quiet way about him but friendships were given freely and lasted forever. His love for family was undeniable, enviable and insurmountable. Denny will always be remembered.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Kathy Richmond; one son, Andy Richmond; two brothers: Merle (Barbara) Richmond and Larry (Del) Richmond; many nieces and nephews and a family of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Madeline and step-dad, Carl Turner.
