DOROTHY JUNS, age 84, of Maple Park, IL, formerly of Burlington, passed away surrounded by the love and prayers of her family in the early morning hours of Monday, August 31, 2015. She is now free to claim the promise of her Savior.
She was born August 11, 1931 in Sandwich, IL, the daughter of Paul and Averil (Troeger) Carr.
Dorothy spent a majority of her growing up years in Kaneville, IL. She attended local schools and graduated from Kaneville High School with the class of 1949. Dorothy had a wealth of talent when it came to music as she played not only the trombone, but also the french horn and the accordion. Not all of the instruments were played to the same level, however, but her favorite was the french horn.
After high school Dorothy worked as a live-in nanny for a doctor in Aurora. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed going to movies and many an evening at Long’s Barn. In fact, it was there that she caught the eye of a certain gentleman. Lud Juns danced his way into her heart that night and after a whirlwind courtship, they were united in marriage on November 17, 1956 at St. Gall Catholic Church in Elburn.
They began their new life together on the Juns family farm located south of Burlington, IL. In 1981, the family picked up and moved to Maple Park and continued to make memories together until Lud’s passing in February of 2006. Dorothy continued to live in Maple Park where her roots in the community continued to grow.
Dorothy was a faithful member of S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, as well as the Altar and Rosary Society. At Virgil School during lunchtime, Dorothy ruled over all she surveyed, at least until lunch when the monitors could go back home. Dorothy was also the unofficial “Post Master” of Virgil, meeting everyone by name with a smile.
Dorothy was the queen of garage sales, gardening and baking. The pond out back of her house was a favorite destination for her children and grandchildren. They also benefited from her eye for bargains, often bringing home loads of costume outfits and jewelry for them to play dress-up. Dorothy’s hands were rarely idle. Crafting kept them busy but it was in the kitchen where she raised the bar. Everything was always from scratch, especially birthday cakes which of course were catered to each persons’ individual tastes. She was immensely proud to share her birthday with her oldest granddaughter. Dorothy was no stranger to hard work on the farm. She reigned supreme while in the driver’s seat of the tractor when it was time to bail hay, but became the chief cook and bottle washer come lunch time. Her family was the most important thing in her life and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren more important still.
She is survived by two children: Sue Juns and William “Bill” (Lori) Juns Sr.; Four grandchildren: Tracie (Daniel) Klug, Katherine (Jason) Kralka, William “Billy” (Natalie) Juns Jr. and Thomas (Taylor Teckenbrock) Juns; ten great-grandchildren: Clare, Reese, Felicity, Lanie, Sophia, Dustin, Genevieve, Brice, Sebastian and William Mark “Liam” Juns III; two siblings: Marvin “Jack” Carr and Gerald “Jerry” Carr; one sister-in-law, Ruth Juns; many nieces and nephews and a countryside full of friends who will miss her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her husband Lud; her parents Paul and Averil Carr; her step-father, John Sterling; her mother and father-in-law, Frank Sr. and Mary Juns; one sister, Mildred Carr; four sisters-in-law: Lois Carr, Mary Schramer, Donna Juns and Jeanne Juns; brothers-in-law: four brothers-in-law: John Juns, Gene Juns, Len Schramer Sr. and Frank Juns Jr.
