Francis Marie Cooke age 83 of Kaneville died Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Brighton Gardens of St. Charles.

She was brought into this world on Wednesday, January 18, 1933 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas the beautiful daughter of Andrew and Goldie (Keech) Lewis.

Before meeting the love of her life Marie had purchased a school bus and converted it into a hauler for donkeys. She had the pleasure of hauling these donkeys to school districts that they had rented for a fund raising event. Participants would ride the donkeys while trying to play a game of basketball.

As the stars aligned Marie met Mr. Warren Cooke at a local square dancing club. A Presbyterian minister united them in marriage on April 19, 1975 at the Waterman United Methodist Church, due to the Methodist minister not being available that day.

Marie worked at Boiltex Co. Coats and Clark Inc. in Aurora.

Marie had a love for square dancing, so much so, she was a founding member of the Bachelor & Bachelorette Square Dancers Club, the same club where Marie and Warren met. After they were married they joined the Good Sam’s Club Camping Club. She enjoyed being a member of the Poyner’s Promanders Square Dancers Club. She held the position of secretary for the Aurora Apple Core Club. Marie and other members would appear on local radio stations where they would share and receive new recipes to and from the local area.

Marie was a lover of many things in addition to her dancing there was her baking of wedding cakes but only after she collected enough coupons to get the ingredients for just the right price. In Marie’s down time she enjoyed traveling and camping with Warren and completing crossword puzzles. Their neighbors always said Marie and Warren had a zoo of animals in their back yard. Marie would feed and take in stray dogs and cats. The animals always knew where to go for a free meal.

She leaves behind her husband, Warren; a dear cousin, Betty Breden; one sister-in-law Fern Cooke; and good friends and neighbors Sue (Jim) O’Connell.

She now joins her parents and one brother.
