Franklin L. “Frank” Allen passed away, Wednesday, February 13, 2019, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family. Frank was the first ever recipient of a living donor small intestine transplant and through his hard work and dedication, he helped save many lives.
Frank was born on February 24, 1971, in Geneva, IL, to proud parents John and Violet (Parker) Allen.
In high school, Frank met the love of his life, Kirsten Romani, through his little sister, Lora. They were true high school sweethearts. On August 10, 1993, Frank and Kirsten were united in marriage and in March of 1994, they welcomed their first child, Dalton, into the world. By 2001, Frank and Kirsten’s family would be complete with two more children, Brittany and Garrett.
Family was everything to Frank. A devoted son, he called his mom every night to see how her day was. A son, husband, dad, brother-in-law and uncle; Frank filled each role, the best at all of them. No one in his family would ever have said a disparaging word about Frank; he was truly loved and loved everyone in return. By any definition, Frank was a “family man”.
In his spare time, Frank could often be found on his Harley or driving around in his 1969 Camaro. The world was his oyster and he rode on all of its streets.
If you looked up fighter in the dictionary, Frank’s name would be there. For 21 years, after having the transplant of a portion of a small intestine donated by his very own sister Lora, he fought for his family and for the lives he was saving. Because of Frank’s dedication to the research of his transplant, he saved hundreds of lives.
Frank enjoyed life to the fullest and made sure that his time here counted. He will be forever missed and never forgotten for his loving heart and fighting spirit.
Frank is survived by his mother, Violet Allen; his loving wife of 25 years, Kirsten Allen; his three children: Dalton, Brittany, and Garrett Allen; his two sisters, Cindy (Greg) Raines and Lora (Jeff) Walker; his mother and father-in-law, Rick and Ellen Romani; a sister-in-law, Becky Vidal; eight nieces and nephews; as well as 17 great-nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, John Allen; maternal grandparents, Marshall and Pearl Parker; and his paternal grandparents, Frank and Lorene Allen.
