Tribute
Things our dad taught us…finish what you start, if you’re going to do it-do it right, you wear your name and mine,
keep your promises, give things back in better condition than you borrow them, life’s short, family matters, be a
good friend, take the highroad, say please and thank you, don’t hold a grudge, I will always love you no matter
what.
Our dad was always a man of integrity, but when he accepted Christ he had a new purpose for himself and those
he came into contact with. Some of the things we enjoyed about dad were that he could fix anything and he would
find things that we didn’t even know needed fixing. Going garage saling with our dad carries treasured memories…
he was a great negotiator and found treasures in some of the weirdest stuff (things he eventually used to fix
our homes).
Dad was a devoted husband of 50 years who biblically lived out how a man is to love his wife, always putting our
mother first, modeling Ephesians 5:25, “husbands love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave himself up
for her”. Not wanting to wait, they eloped to Ann Arbor, Michigan where the marriage age was only 18 and he
has been her rock ever since.
He has left huge shoes for his sons-in-law to fill as Dad could fix anything and everything, not to mention all the
remodeling projects he helped or completed in our homes. He built their current house from the very foundation.
He courageously fought during his illness. The hospital staff coined him the “Rockstar”, and he kept them laughing
with his humor through all the ups and downs. We are truly grateful for how God worked in him and through
him during this tough battle. He bragged about his church and most importantly his Savior. We truly believe that
God gave him extra time to complete all that was on his heart to protect and care for our mother before he was
called home…just like Dad to put the people he loved before himself.
There is far too much to even begin to scratch the surface in this small space. We are so blessed to have a Good,
Good Father in heaven who gave us a Good, Good Father on earth. He left us with warm memories of a wonderful
childhood and instilled a strong sense of family.
It is in faith that we know that this is not goodbye but a brief pause before we are reunited as promised by God
when you place your faith in Christ.
See you again our dear sweet father,
Dawn and Dena
