HORACE SNEDEKERage 91 of Big Rock, IL, passed away peacefully, Tuesday evening, January 6, 2004 at the McAuley Manor, Aurora after suffering a series of strokes. BORNHe was born March 20, 1912 in Carthage, South Dakota, the son of William Edwin and Martha Ellen Osburn. CHILDHOOD / EDUCATIONHorace grew up in the Carthage farming community and was united in marriage to Leona Corbin on April 27, 1932in Howard, South Dakota. They farmed in Carthage, through the worst years of drought and dust storms, until 1941 when they moved to Big Rock, IL. EMPLOYMENTThey farmed in Big Rock until 1961 when Horace retired from the fields and began to work for the Big Rock Implement Company. In later years he was also employed for a time with Smith and Richardson Mfg., Geneva. Out of the work place, however, Horace’ hands were never idle. He loved woodworking in his basement shop and serving as "handyman" for his friends and neighbors. In the earlier South Dakota years, Horace also enjoyed hunting and fishing in the great outdoors. Throughout his life, Horace enjoyed reading western novels and mysteries. MEMBERSHIPHorace was a member of the Big Rock Baptist Church. His faith was his strength and his dry sense of humor was the oil that kept life turning, even in the tough times. SURVIVORS He is survived by four children:Dean (Erma) Snedeker of Big RockRichard L. SERVICESHis funeral service will be held Saturday at 10am at theBig Rock Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Eugene Frost will officiate.

Interment will follow at West Big Rock Cemetery.
