NAME JACK R. GRIZZLE, age 84, of Elburn, passed away in the early morning hours of May 23, 2009, at DeKalb County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, DeKalb, IL. BORN: He was born on July 5, 1924, the son of Clarence and Thelma Grizzle in Sullivan, IN. EARLY YEARS :Jack grew up in Indiana until the family moved to Aurora in 1936 where he attended local schools.EDUCATION: He graduated from West Aurora High School.MILITARY: After graduation Jack was drafted on March 27, 1943. He proudly served his country as a radio man in the artillery division in the Pacific Theater during WWII. MARRIAGE Upon return to civilian life, he was united in marriage to Ethel Mae Bates at St. Therese Church in Aurora on April 24, 1946. Once married, they began to raise a family that would include seven children. OCCUPATION / WORK HISTORY In 1974, Ethel and Jack purchased Jack’s Paint Shop in Aurora. Later they moved to Maple Park where they lived the "country life" for fifteen years. They retired in 1989 and moved to Sandwich, IL before making a home in Oswego in 1996. Jack and Ethel were both playground monitors at Kaneland Elementary School from 1990-1992.MEMBERSHIPS Jack was a faithful member of The Church of St. Mary, Maple Park as well as the Third Ward Club, Tiger Club, Knights of Columbus #736, Moose Lodge #1016, American Legion Post #84 and VFW Post #07452.LIFE NOTES Jack loved spending time with his family no matter what the occasion. He enjoyed trips to Galena with his daughters, watching the Chicago Bears and especially his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles. The sounds of the Big Band Era and Dixieland Jazz were his favorites and went especially well with a beverage in hand, smile on his face and surrounded by friends who shared his endless knowledge of the classics.SURVIVORS He now leaves six children:Karla (Mike) Nash of Sandwich, Jacalyn (Don) Collin of DeKalb, IL, Jay (Barb) Grizzle of Chanhassen, MN, Jon Grizzle of Montgomery, Jill (Jim) Locke of Elburn, And Kara (Tom) Butts of Elburn;Twelve grandchildren:Jeff Doyle, Lisa (Jim) Fox,Justin Gullstrand, Jorie and Jack Grizzle, Jared (Jenny) Grizzle, Sara (Josh Marks) Grizzle, Jimmy, Ben, and Robbie Locke, Morgan and Emily Butts;Six great-grandchildren:Tyler and Ashlyn Fox Noah and Jonah Grizzle, Savannah and Sheyanne Marks;A dear friend Elizabeth Crossland, And dedicated caregiver, Danuta Dobrowoska and a family of friends. PRECEDED He now joins his loving wife Ethel, his parents, Clarence and Thelma Herbert, step-father, Albert Herbert, a son Kris R. Grizzle, a grandson Mike Doyle and two sisters, Norma Grizzle in infancy and Evalyn Ogren who preceded him in death. VISITATION / FUNERAL Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn on Tuesday, May 26, 2009. A mass to celebrate his life will be held at The Church of St. Mary, Maple Park, at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2009. Fr. Joachim Tyrtania, pastor of the church, will officiate and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. MEMORIAL A memorial has been established in his name to benefit The Michael B. Doyle Memorial For Parkinson’s Research at Rush University Medical Center. Checks may be made to the "Jack Grizzle Memorial" and mailed in care of P.O. Box 66, Elburn, IL 60119.
