Joan Lillian Miller, age 81, of St. Charles, formerly of West Chicago, passed away at her home, Thursday, June 11, surrounded by the love and prayers of her family.
She was born April 16, 1939, in West Chicago, IL, to proud parents, William and Dorothy (Spoden) Streit.
Joan grew up in West Chicago and attended local schools. She graduated from West Chicago High School with the class of 1957.
Joan met her future husband at her sister’s wedding. She was working at the gift table, and Dan Miller introduced himself. Soon they gave each other the gift of their hearts and walked down the aisle. They were united in marriage in 1959. They began their new life together in Wheaton, IL, but spent most of their married lives in West Chicago. Their family grew by three daughters, Dani-Jo, Christine and Jennifer, made the family complete.
Joan worked for the Northern Illinois Gas for a time before the birth of her daughters. She reentered the work force in the mid 1970’s and spent almost 20 years working as a Treasury Clerk for DuPage County. She retired in 1998. Joan and Dan spent more time at the family cottage in Wisconsin that they purchased in 1984. Countless memories of the lake filled the years as the family gathered each summer. Joan loved her time swimming, boating and especially antiquing, but never, ever fishing.
Joan loved to read fiction novels and watch old movies from the 30’s and 40’s but the love for her children and grandchildren topped them all.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dan Miller; three daughters: Dani-Jo (Gregory) Galauner, Christine (Michael) Weibler, and Jennifer (James) Weibler; Nine grandchildren: Jacob (Andrea) Galauner, Gabrielle Galauner, Julieanne Galauner, Jessica Weibler, Nicholas Weibler, Daniel Weibler, Samuel Weibler, Emma Weibler and Eli Weibler; two sisters: Patricia Dettman and Joy Filip; many nieces, nephews and a family of friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Dorothy Streit, and four siblings: Marianne Wenk, Shirley Kaelin, Louise Gustafson, and Kenneth Streit.
