JOSEPH J. KUDLO age 80 of rural Elburn, passed away May 3, 2004, at Delnor Community Hospital following an auto accident.BORN Date/Place / PARENTS (mother\\\’s maiden name)He was born September 13, 1923 in Summit, IL, the son of Mike and Stella (Stec) Kudlo. When he was a boy the family moved to Chicago’s "Clearing" neighborhood. Joseph attended St. Symphorosa grammar school and graduated from Lindbloom High School, Chicago. He went on to attend the former Chicago Technical College for two years and soon afterward, was inducted into the Army. As an infantryman, Joseph fought across France, landing in Normandy on D+17 and fighting in the Battle of the Bulge, among others. After the war, Joseph returned home to Chicago where he began working for Motorola Corp. He continued with the company until the mid-eighties when he retired. A decade earlier, however, Joseph had purchased land near Elburn and, on a small scale, became part of the farming community. He raised a few acres of oats and alfalfa, tilled himself a large garden and planted a number of fruit trees around his home. Ironically, a generation earlier, his parents had farmed and raised chickens where homes and factories were later built. MEMBERSHIPAlthough Joseph was a quiet, self-sufficient man, he enjoyed attending auctions throughout the area and made many acquaintances in the process. Though stubbornly independent and strongly opinionated about things that mattered to him, Joseph had a kind and thoughtful heart that remembered birthdays and special times. The end of his life was a good example. Although recent months brought ill health that threatened his independence and his very life, Joseph persisted on his own. Never wishing to become a burden, he made sure that his house was "in order". When an unexpected accident released him from suffering to come, his many acts of thoughtful preparation, released his loved one’s from tasks they might have faced alone. SURVIVORSJoseph is survived by three Siblings:Lillian Morie of Arma, KSJulia Lattyak of Chicago, IL andMichael Kudlo of Yorba Linda, CA (spelling to be confirmed)Many nieces and nephewsand an unnumbered "family of friends".
