Doctor Karl Theodor Baumgaertel, 94, of Elburn passed away peacefully Sunday, February 15, 2015 surrounded by the love and prayers of his family. He is gone from this Earth but will never be forgotten. Karl was born February 10, 1921 in Konigsberg, Germany to parents Walter and Anna Baumgaertel. He moved to the U.S. in the 1950’s and completed his medical residency at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. He specialized in neurology at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, Ohio. Karl and his wife Karin were blessed with 3 children Dr. Peter Bernd, Attorney Rolf Eric Baumgaertel and Ingrid Ramos. Karl and Karin moved to Elburn to live with their daughter and family in 2007. Karl is survived by his wife Karin of 53 years; his 3 children, Dr. Peter Bernd (Maria) and Attorney Rolf (Megan) Baumgaertel, and Ingrid (Rolando) Ramos; 8 grandchildren, Andrea, Emma, Karl, Noah, Johannes Baumgaertel, Marcus, Mirella, and Eric Ramos. Brothers Wolfhard (Evelyn), Bernd (Carol) Baumgaertel; and sister Gunhild (Konrad) McMillianKarl is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Anna Baumgaertel, his brother Roland Baumgaertel and sister Ruth VonBezold.A private family memorial service was held Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Conley Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Karl’s name to benefit the American Cancer Society.
