Larry Erickson, age 75, of Kaneville, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family at Delnor Hospital, Geneva.
Larry was born in DeKalb, IL, on April 26, 1943, to loving parents, Ivan and Dorothy (Antrobus) Erickson.
He grew up in Kaneville, IL, on the family farm with two brothers and three sisters, all of whom took their turns tending to the cattle. Larry attended local schools and graduated from Kaneland High School with the class of 1961. He not only received his diploma but a crown as well, “reigning supreme” as the homecoming king.
As it turned out, his queen, Connie Rissman, became his wife in October 26, 1963 and they raised two boys, Kent and Kurt. They began their new life in his hometown of Kaneville but loss came to call when Connie passed away in 1987. Fate smiled upon him again a year later when he met Diana Kohley. They shared their hearts and created a future on October 28, 1992. They continued to call Kaneville home and make memories with every passing year.
Larry’s working career spanned 44 years as a drywall taper and later as Superintendent at Fox Valley Drywall in Aurora, IL. He retired in 2004.
Larry and Diana traveled extensively, enjoying the vistas of Alaska, Panama Canal and went out west to Yellowstone and Yosemite. Auto racing, snowmobiling and four-wheeling called to his heart and fed his “need for speed”. He loved to fish in the sense that he had a fishing pole, a beer, but more often than not, no fish in his net. Larry was an avid gardener, tenderly raising hostas, vegetables, cannas, and had an overall love of landscaping. Mowing his lawn was an event to be cherished and whiled away the hours watching birds and squirrels off the end of his porch. In retirement, Larry enjoyed being the “mayor” of Kaneville, touring in his golf cart and holding court at Briana’s where hot coffee and burnt toast was the order of the day. Larry had a collection of toys that included snowmobiles to cars to anything that caught his eye. It was said he’d go in for an oil change and come home with a new car! His family was his life and he was never happier than when he was surrounded by his grandkids. Their times together in Kaneville and the lake house in Ft. Atkinson were priceless beyond compare.
He is survived by his loving wife Diana Erickson; two sons: Kent (Kate) Erickson and Kurt (Paula) Erickson; five grandchildren: Kristine, Audrey, Kyle, Annie and Ben; five siblings: Denny (Claire) Erickson, Joel (MaDonna) Erickson, Donna (Dave) Meisch, Bonnie (Tom) Proctor and Jill (Jeff) Roberts; many nieces, nephews and a countryside full of lifelong friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Connie Erickson.
