Laura E. "Betty" Lyle, age 89, of Sycamore, IL passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning, August 12, 2014 at Kishwaukee Hospital, Sycamore.She was born November 29, 1924, on the Dayton farm, northeast of Maple Park, the daughter of Andrew and Bessie (Emberson) Lyle. She attended the Thatcher Country School through the eighth grade and graduated from Maple Park High School with the class of 1943. Following graduation, she worked for several years at the Kane County Court House in Geneva both in the Board of Review office and the Probate Clerks office. She moved to California where she worked in the Smith/Miller toy plant in Santa Monica and then for 34 years she was employed by Scott & Scott Printers, Vaughn Printers and Hamilton/Avnet. She returned to make her home in Sycamore, IL in 1988 where she worked for Gourmet Press and TMC.Betty was an expert craft maker, knitting blankets, making napkin holders, and Kleenex box holders. She specialized in floral arrangements making beautiful pieces for those around her. Betty loved playing bingo with her friends, she didn’t have to win, she just wanted to play. She never missed a birthday, sending out cards to anyone who crossed her path. You could count on getting a card from Betty, no matter what! One of Betty’s fondest pastimes was watching the Chicago Bulls. From watching Bob Love, to Michael Jordan, Betty was the most loyal of fans. She was never seen without her favorite Bulls jacket! She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Los Angeles, CA, the Christian Missionary Alliance Church of Santa Monica, CA and a lifetime member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Maple Park.She is survived by her sister, Frances Marion (Lyle) Bennett of Sycamore; 1 nephew, Michael Bennett; special cousin and friend Noel Baker of Las Vegas, as well as cousins; Mary (Floyd) Matheny of Las Vegas, Janet (Steve) Hauser of Hinckley, IL, Helen Faber of NC, Rose (Lee) Mell of NC, Margaret Garbo of MN, Robert Emberson, Jr. of DeKalb, IL, Jane (Dean) Quarstrom, Edward (Sue) Emberson, Frank (Kathy) Emberson, and John (Cathy) Emberson, all of DeKalb, IL, and Florence (Frank) Schou of Rockford, and Dorothy (Carl) Kauffman of Woodstock; good friend, Nancy Olsen of Maple Park; and a lifetime of friends.She is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Hazel Lyle; and one nephew, Ronn Bennett.Her visitation will be held at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce, Elburn, on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 from 4-7 pm. A funeral to celebrate her life will be held Thursday, August 21, 2014, 10:30 am, at Conley Funeral Home with Rev. Laura Crites, pastor of the Hinckley United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Gardner Cemetery, Maple Park.In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Betty’s name.
