Leann F. Harmon, age 60, of Oregon, IL, passed away at her home, surrounded by the love of her family following a short battle with cancer on Monday, April 13, 2009.BORN: Month/ Day/ Year She was born September 1, 1948 the daughter of Ed and Leigh Lindberg in Chicago, IL. EARLY YEARS:Leann grew up in the Homewood and Flossmoor area through her formative years and attended local schools. She graduated from Homewood Flossmoor High School in 1966 and received her RN degree from Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, IL.. MARRIAGE She married Emery F. Harmon III, November 15, 1975. RESIDENTIAL HISTORY: Emery and Leann began their life together in Elgin, IL. Later, their growing family in tow, Emery and Leann moved to rural St. Charles, IL. Four years ago they fell in love with the town of Oregon, IL and it is there that they have since made their home. OCCUPATION / WORK HISTORY After earning her RN degree, Leann worked in hospital nursing for a number of years and later she ran the offices of various local doctors. After leaving the nursing field she concentrated on raising her two sons, volunteering for school activities, helping as room mother, library volunteer and later getting deeply involved in the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI). In her later years, Leann worked in various capacities at GMA in Elgin; Dunlap Woodworking in Batavia and the Kane County Circuit Clerk in St. Charles while continuing her work with NAMI. MEMBERSHIPS Leann was on the St. Mary’s (Elgin) home and school council, coining the "We are Family" parish/school slogan, running fundraisers and working Friday night Bingo. She was Past President of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, Kane County chapter and also was the current President of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, Sauk Valley chapter. She was in the process of starting "Family to Family" classes when she became ill. Leann was also a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Mt. Morris lodge. LIFE NOTES Leann’s brothers and sisters were separated in 1952 when her birth mother and birth father died within 6 months of each other. The six children were separated into three groups of two and were adopted by three different families in three different parts of the Chicago area through Catholic Charities. Through sheer perseverance over twenty-seven years, Leann was instrumental in finding and getting together all six siblings, as well as their families, and had continued her new found family relationships ever since. SURVIVORS She now leaves her loving husband, Emery III;Two sons:Emery IV and Edward Harmon;Three brothers:Corky Anderson of Ocala, FL; Frank (Jan) Lindberg of SanFelipe, TX and Ed (Penny) Dini of Valparaiso, IN;One sister, Pam (Gary) Martin of Florence CO and a family of friends. PRECEDED She now joins her parents and her sister Christine Anderson. VISITATION / FUNERAL A memorial Mass will be celebrated April 25, 2009, 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Church, 301 N. 4th St., Oregon, IL. MEMORIAL A memorial has been established in her name to benefit the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMII) in Sauk Valley as well as Ogle County Hospice.
