Lois Johnson, age 98, of Sugar Grove, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Savior, Wednesday, January 16, 2019.
She was born on May 22, 1920, in Lake Geneva, WI, to proud parents, Louis and Viola (Schroeder) Jacobson.
Lois grew up on the family dairy farm in Lake Geneva, WI and attended local schools. She graduated from Lake Geneva High School with the class of 1938.
Lois continued her education at Sherman Hospital, School of Nursing in Elgin, IL. After graduating in 1941, she began working at Delnor Hospital in St. Charles, IL.
Lois was united in marriage to Carl E. Johnson on October 16, 1943. They began their new life together on Elburn area farms but moved to rural Sugar Grove in 1951 where they continued to farm until Carl’s retirement in 1982.
Lois started her working career as a nurse but supported Carl in his farming dreams as their family grew by two children. In 1968, she again picked up her nurses cap and began working for Caterpillar. She put away her uniform for the last time in 1983. In retirement, Lois and Carl built a house near the farm. After Carl’s passing in 1990, Lois continued to make memories there until 2002, when she moved to her present home in Sugar Grove.
Lois was a member of the Sherman Hospital Alumni Association and the Sugar Grove Seniors. Lois also was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church, but most recently worshipped at New Hope Lutheran Church.
Lois loved to travel and visited Alaska, Sweden, Ireland and more. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilted with other friends in her church. Dominos was a favorite game, but crafts held a special place in her heart. In past years during the holidays, the table was always laden with homemade cookies and her famous peanut brittle, which she shared with all she knew. Lois and word search puzzles went together, hand in hand, but she was passionate and prolific gardener as well, tending to her African Violets while still keeping an eye out as a crack bird watcher.
She is survived by her son, David (Linda) Johnson; two grandchildren: Kimberly (Chadwick) Walther and Michael (Barbara) Johnson and their children, Meredith, Leo and Caroline; two siblings: Lorraine Sieker and Kenneth Jacobson; a sister-in-law, Alice Jacobson; ten nieces and nephews including her Goddaughter, Debra Swanson and a family of friends.
Lois is preceded in death by her husband, one son, William Johnson, her parents, Louis and Viola Jacobson; three brothers: Robert, Milton, and Virgil who died in infancy; two brothers-in-law: Earl Swanson and Philip Sieker and three sisters-in-law: Ruth Carlson, Arlene Jacobson and Helen Jacobson.
