NAME Marianne Catherine Sheldon, age 67, of DeKalb, IL, passed away Monday morning, surrounded by the love of her family on March 16, 2009. BORN / EARLY YEARSShe was born March 11, 1942, the daughter of Ken and Anna Bernice (Sperry) Angell in Aurora, IL. Marianne grew up in Aurora and graduated from West Aurora High School. Following graduation she worked several jobs in the area before dedicating twenty years to AT&T in Geneva. She retired in 2004. MARRIAGE & FAMILY Marianne married Paul Sheldon Sr. in Aurora on September 1, 1961. LIFE NOTES Marianne lived by the creed that "everything happens for a reason" and it served her well. She had a never ending smile and loved to laugh, especially at herself. Her arms, as well as her home, were forever open to anyone who needed a home, a hug or a shoulder to cry on. She had a gentle touch and a mother’s intuition and was a master at empathy. Marianne always knew if you had something on your mind. If it was a meal you needed, you could find no one better. Marianne could pick recipes from over four hundred cookbooks that were tweaked to perfection, as nothing less was acceptable. When it came to baking, Marianne’s kitchen held the promise of cookie bars, pies and her renowned toffee, whose recipe is a closely guarded secret known only to three others. She was a people person by nature and her friendship was a priceless gift that she gave freely. If there was one thing that was precious to Marianne, it was her family. It is that legacy of love, laughter and culinary genius that will live on in their hearts and minds for generations to come.
