Mark “Pete” Peterson, age 72, of Elburn, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family, in the early morning hours of September 6, 2017.
He was born on May 19, 1945, to proud parents, Orville and Marcella (Skoug) Peterson in Eau Claire, WI.
Pete grew up in Eau Claire and attended local schools. He graduated from Eau Claire Memorial High School with the class of 1963.
Pete answered the call of his country in September of 1965 and proudly served in the United States Army in Vietnam until his honorable discharge on September 13, 1971. He returned to civilian life and his long time love, Joan Onstad, settling in Elburn in 1967.
They were united in marriage on December 24, 1968 at the Good Shepherd Church back in his hometown of Eau Claire, WI. They began their new life together back in Elburn where they raised three children. Pete found work at the Elburn Packing Plant until the plant closed in 1985. 1988 brought him into the employ of Pamarco Global in Batavia. After a twenty year tenure, Pete retired in 2008.
As a son of Wisconsin, he easily pledged lifetime loyalty to his beloved Green Bay Packers, but left his ties behind when it came to baseball, as the Atlanta Braves was his team of choice. He was a connoisseur of news, the cooking channel and anything that had to do with nature. He loved to watch his grandchildren, but especially when he could go camping with his grandson. His hand was no stranger to hoisting a can of beer. Be it Schlitz, Pabst Blue Ribbon or Leinenkugels, as long as it was ice cold, it was welcome. In their younger years, both Pete and Joan spent Friday nights bowling on a local league. Poker games in the basement were also a staple at the Peterson household.
He is survived by his loving wife Joan; three children: Jodi Peterson, Kelly Kennedy and John Peterson; five grandchildren: Brett Peterson, Samantha Peterson, Eric Heffron, Kayla Kennedy and Ryan Kennedy; one great-grandson, Noah Haritos; one brother, Steven Peterson; a sister, Diane Roth; many nieces, nephews and community of friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Marcella Peterson and three sisters: Sharon Pitts, Carol Peterson and Darlene Waak;
