Metta Johnson DeVleschouwer, 86, of DeKalb passed away Wednesday, June 30,2004, at her home surrounded by family. Born July 28, 1917 in Maple Parak, she was the daughter of Nels and Hansine Larsen. Metta worked for Power’s Grocery Store in Maple Park until she graduated from Maple Park High School in 1935. Then she worked at Sullivan’s Sandwich Shop until she met and married Martin Johnson in 1937. She was a housewife and mother and also worked the farm with Martin until his death in 1961. Then she worked at Moline Maleable Iron in St. Charles where she met and married Alefons DeVleschouwer in 1963. They lived in St. Charles where she enjoyed sewing, crafts, and celebrating holidays with her family. She and Fonce also enjoyed traveling to Michigan and spending winters in Florida. After Alefons’ Death in 1985, she remained in St. Charles before moving to DeKalb in 1996. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Maple Park and the Baker Memorial Church in St. Charles. At both churches, she was a very active in many women’s circles and church bazaars. She is survived by her daughters, Jane Ostrom and Barb (Brud) Fox of Maple Park, and Sandy (Jerry) Busby of DeKalb and her step-son Ed (Cheryl) DeVel of Tennessee, and her grandchildren: Fred (Kelli) Busby, Brad (Ronda) Fox, Nonnie ( Mike) Scorzo, Mike ( Maureen) Fox, Diana Ostrom Garza and step-grandchildren: Dan (Sandy) DeVel, David (Melanie) DeVel and Dawn (Rich) DeVerre, and great-grandchildren: Mike, Jake and Jenny Busby, Tyler and Logan Fox, Joshua and Noah Fox, Emily and Amy Scorzo and step great-grandchildren, Joshua and Rachel DeVel. She is also survived by he sister, Loretta Christensen and her brothers, Robert (Arlene) Larsen and Alfred Larsen and a brother-in-law and sister-in-laws. She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marion Emberson and brothers; Claude, Ed and Carl Larsen; a great-grandson, Jimmer Busby and great-grandaughter, Hannah Ostrom and a step daughter-in-law, Gloria DeVel. Memorials in her name may be made to the DeKalb County Hospice or the American Cancer Society and mailed in care of PO Box 66, Elburn, Il 60119

Her funeal service will be held at 2:PM at the Grace United Methodist Church, Maple Park, Il on Saturday July 3,2004

Burial will follow at Gardner Cemetery in Maple Park
