NORINE MARIE FLORENCE, age 95, of Big Rock, passed away on January 31, 2013, surrounded by the love and prayers of her family at McAuley Manor in Aurora. BORN: She was born March 28, 1917, the daughter of Nickolas and Ada (Benton) Nickels in Aurora, IL. Norine grew up in Blackberry Township on what is now known as Lorang Rd. on the family farm. She attended local schools and graduated from Kaneville High School with the class of 1934. Following graduation Norine became her mother’s right hand in the home until she married her high school sweetheart, Wayne Florence. On October 8, 1936 they were united in marriage in the parsonage of the Batavia Methodist Church. They made their home on the Florence family farm near Troxel until 1939, when they moved to the present family farm near Big Rkock. Over the years they welcomed Janice, Robert, Ronald, Susan and Linda into their lives. She devoted her life to raising her children and caring for their home. She was a member of the Aurora Mosse Lodge for many years. LIFE NOTES: Norine had many activities she enjoyed that kept her busy over the years. In the early years she would make her own butter, cottage cheese, and jam. After the children moved out she and Wayne would spend evenings dancing or gathering their friends to play a game of Euchre. They traveled many miles together over the years, but the one special place they traveled to was the family’s cottage in Door County. Although she had many interests, nothing meant more to her than her family. She always supported her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in anything they did. Whether it was attending a basketball, baseball, or soccer game or just being there when they ran across the driveway to greet them at the door.
