Annetta (nee Bicknese) Grever, was born April 18, 1917 in Wood Dale, Illinois to Fred and Lydia Bicknese and was baptized into Christ at Zion Lutheran Church, Bensonville. After her mother and grandmother died in the influenza epidemic the following year, Annetta and her father lived with William and Bertha Bunge above their hardware store in Itasca, Illinois. She continued to live with the Bunges after her father went to work on his brother’s farm. When he married again in 1923, her father and step-mother allowed Annetta to remain with “Ma Bunge,” who, Annetta wrote in her memoir, “was the only mother I had ever known.” She attended St. Luke’s Lutheran School, sharing a desk with Gertie Fiene; they became lifelong friends. She loved learning, did well, and often told the story of competing with an 8th grader on a multiplication problem when she was in 4th grade. Jeffrey Scott “Briggs” Klotz passed from his family’s loving arms into the gentle care of the Lord, Sunday, January 12, 2020. He may have only lived for two months, but his life impacted hundreds. He was diagnosed prenatally with Pulmonary Atresia at only 20 weeks, surviving on only half a heart but that half was easily worth a dozen healthy ones. “Briggs” (nicknamed for the similarity of his heartbeat to that of the sound of a Briggs & Stratton single cylinder engine), made sure he not only made it to his birthday, October 24. 2019, but through Christmas, New Years, and refused to stop smiling, laughing or loving until his earthly struggles became a celestial release. Charles “Chuck” Kurtin, age 72, of Elburn, passed away quietly into the halls of Heaven, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family, Saturday, January 4, 2020. He was born August 26, 1947 in Chicago, IL, to loving parents, Charles Sr. and Julia (Tonich) Kurtin. Chuck grew up in Chicago and attended local schools including Farragut High School and Badger High School when the family moved to Lake Como, WI. Chuck was united in marriage to Susan La Bianca on October 15, 1966 and they were blessed with two children, Christine and Kevin. They made their home in Chicago for a time before moving to Addison in 1973. Carol Stream became their home for many years until 1991, when they moved to Bartlett. Roland “Rollie” M. Thomas, age 83, of Elburn, passed away surrounded by the love and prayers of his family, on Thursday, January 2, 2020. He was born August 26, 1936, in Albia, IA, to proud parents, Morgan and Ethel (Sandeen) Thomas. Rollie grew up in Albia and attended local schools. He not only went to school but took on the mantle of caretaker for his siblings. If you needed anything, Rollie was first in line. He graduated from Albia High School with the class of 1954 and was a proud member of the FFA where showed his cattle. In July after graduation, Rollie travelled to Elburn and tried his hand at welding in Sycamore for a time.
