ALFRED L. LARSEN, age 88, of Tampa, FL, formerly of Maple Park, passed away at his home, Tuesday, February 25, 2014. After thirty years, he is finally reunited with the love of his life, Betty, who has been patiently waiting to spend the rest of eternity in his arms. BORN: He was born October 31, 1925, in Sycamore, the son of Nels and Hansine (Olesen) Larsen.Alfred grew up just outside Maple Park and attended local schools. Before long, Alfred answered the call of his country, enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. Following his honorable discharge on May 22, 1946, Alfred returned to civilian life and found his heart had been stolen by Betty Hill. Following a whirlwind courtship, they were united in marriage on November 1, 1946 and settled in Maple Park.Alfred worked local farms for a time before entering the foundry business. For the next many years, he worked at the Maple Park Foundry before retiring after a thirty year career at the Batavia Foundry and Machine Company. Alfred was lifelong resident of Maple Park, continuing to live on Summer St. after Betty passed away in 1984. In 2001, Alfred followed his son to Tampa, FL where he enjoyed the sunshine and sun set years of his life. Alfred was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and proud lifetime member of the Maple Park American Legion, post 312.Alfred was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to go hunting for pheasants and rabbits on local farms, often taking along his sons, but when it came to fishing for northern, Clam Lake in Wisconsin was his favorite destination. In his early years, as soon as spring hit, Alfred hit the links as part of the Maple Park Golf Association he joined in 1973. He also coached and was past president of the Maple Park Baseball Program for several years. Aside from Harry Carry, Alfred was the Chicago Cubs number one fan according to Alfred, "Sox Suck". He is survived by children:Joel (Veronica) Larsen and Daniel Larsen, both of Tampa, FL;Two grandsons:Mark Larsen of Tampa, FL, David (Keri) Larsen and their children, Violet and Ivy, of Tampa, FL;One sister in-law, Madonna Wise of Colorado, many nieces, nephews and a community of friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Nels and Hansine Larsen, three sisters, Marion, Metta and Loretta; three brothers: Claude, Edward and Robert Larsen.Visitation will be Tuesday, March 4, 2014, from 4-8 p.m. at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, IL 60119. A funeral to celebrate his life will be Wednesday, March 5, at Conley Funerl Home at 11 a.m. Rev. Eun Young Ko, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church of Maple Prk will officiate, with interment to follow at Gardner Cemetery, Maple Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name to benefit Alfred’s favorite charities. Checks may be made to the "Alfred Larsen Memorial" and mailed in care of P.O.
