Anthony G. Heyob

Anthony "Tony" G. Heyob Jr.,Age 82 of Maple Park, IL, passed away peacefully at his home, early Monday morning, November 3, 2008, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family. BORN: He was born July 27, 1926, the son of Anthony and Susan (Deutsch) Heyob on the family dairy farm in Virgil, IL.EARLY YEARS :Tony had a typical upbringing on the farm, helping with chores and helping care for a hundred or more cows. In the meantime, he attended local schools and graduated from Maple Park High School in 1945. MILITARY: After high school, Tony enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in Korea until his honorable discharge in 1947. Upon returning to civilian life, Tony picked up where he left off working on the family farm.MARRIAGE Shortly after his return from overseas he was united in marriage to Jean Turk on November 29th, 1947. They began their new life together on a farm in Maple Park on Beith Rd. where they continued until 1982 when Tony sold his dairy herd and he and Jean moved into town. There, they celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary just prior to Jean’s passing in 1993. Always the farmer, Tony remained busy through the years, driving truck and helping out his many friends in farming. MEMBERSHIPS He was a proud member of the Maple Park American Legion Post # 312 as well as the Loyal Order of the Moose in Batavia, IL and was a life-long "Die Hard" Cub Fan. LIFE NOTES Tony spent as much time as possible at Lake Koshkonong, WI. The family loved to spend time playing Pitch, Euchre, Cribbage and Pinochle. They also had epic croquet games that spanned the entire campsite. Endless hours were spent as well, sitting on Tony’s pontoon boat looking for the ever elusive catfish. Tony and Jean went out to dinner every Friday night and also spent time other nights in his favorite pub to share a drink and a story. Tony had a green thumb and was proud of his garden, especially his tomatoes. To his last day, he enjoyed driving through the countryside looking at the farm land stretch for miles. When he couldn’t cruise the fields, he made use of his personal golf cart sometimes having adventures at 2 a.m.! SURVIVORS He now leaves ten children:David Heyob of Maple Park, IL, Joe (Cindy) Heyob of Maple Park, IL, Susan (Charles) Stanley of DeKalb, IL, Karen (Michael) Signorella of Maple Park, IL, Sandy (Thomas) Luhtala of River Falls, WI,Patricia (Laverne) Hjelmberg of Sycamore, IL, Michael (Chris) Heyob of Maple Park, IL, Paul (Judy) Heyob of Shelbyville, IL, Charles Heyob of Sycamore, IL and Kevin (Laura) Heyob of DeKalb, IL; 23 Grandchildren and5.8 great-grandchildren; (yes number right) Two brothers:Jacob (Marilyn) Heyob of St. Charles, IL and Richard (Tami) Heyob of AR; Two sisters:Marcella Turk of Sycamore, IL and Marie Phillips of DeKalb, IL,As well as many nieces, nephews and a countryside of friends. PRECEDED He now joins his parents, his wife Jean, one son Roger Heyob and one great-granddaughter, Lauren McGinnis, who preceded him in death. VISITATION / FUNERAL Visitation will be held Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008 from 4pm to 8pm at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, IL. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at Conley Funeral Home, Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008 at 10am. The Rev. Mark Meyer will officiate and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Maple Park, IL. MEMORIAL A memorial has been established in his name.
