BARBARA Catherine HAHNOf The Villages, FL, formerly of Virgil, IL, passed away Friday, September 7, 2007 at her home where she had recently entered hospice care after a long battle with lymphoma.BORN / EARLY YEARSShe was born May 8, 1917 in Virgil, IL, the eldest daughter of ten children born to Nicholas J. and Katherine (Theis) Schramer. Barbara grew up on the Petit farm on Ramm Rd. and attended S.S. Peter & Paul School, Virgil. An avid student she excelled in school and at the age of sixteen became her brother Joe’s surrogate mother for the first two years of his life. As a young woman she made her home in West Chicago where she worked at Reid Murdock, the pickle factory in West Chicago. Every penny was sent home to her parents to help raise her siblings. It was at a party that she met a young man with whom she had attended grade school back in Virgil. His name was Matthias Patrick Hahn and that un-planned "class reunion", sparked a romance that lead to the altar. Patrick and Barbara were united in holy matrimony on May 7, 1940 at S.S. Peter & Paul church, Virgil. They made their home in Cloverdale with his parents where they were grain farmers until Patrick’s sudden death in 1946.The following year, Barbara returned home to Virgil to live with her parents and raise her children.Rosanne was 5 ½ , Mae,3½ and Joan, 1½ . Surrounded by a loving family and deeply rooted in her faith, a determined Barbara set her heart to the challenge of making a home and a life for her girls. For thirty-one years, Barbara worked as a parts clerk for DuKane Corporation, St. Charles where her memory and penchant for detail served her well. She and the girls made their home in Virgil until 1971 when Barbara and her daughter Joan moved to Hanson road in Lily Lake. In 1987 they moved to the Windings of Ferson Creek until 1993 when they left Illinois for Florida and settled in The Villages where they have since made their home. Those who knew Barbara, knew that the real story of her life was a story of faith and devotion. For over twenty years, she washed, starched and stretched the altar linens for S.S. Peter & Paul Church. Those hours and many more in many different ways, were all given for the love of her Lord and Savior. She took that same devotion with her to Florida where she was an active member of the St. Timothy Catholic Church and the Women’s Guild. There, she was also involved with the Pilgrim Virgin, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, CCW and the Parish Welcome Committee. SURVIVORS She is survived by three daughters, Joan B.
