Barbara J. Dannewitz, age 82, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on September 23, 2014.Barb was born on October 12, 1931 in Elgin, Illinois to Mary and Ernest Anderson. She graduated from Elgin High School in 1950. She attended Copley Nursing School and graduated in 1954. She received her Masters’ in Nursing from Northern Illinois University in 1982. She continued her education until the time she retired from nursing in the late 90’s. She worked at Kishwaukee, Sycamore, Geneva, Elmhurst, Good Samaritan and Sherman Hospitals throughout her nursing career. In addition, she worked registry and volunteered at various hospitals over the years. On March 27, 1954 she was married to the love of her life, Edwin Dannewitz. Together they raised 4 children. Barb and Ed lived in many locations (Puerto Rico, California, Maine, Louisiana, Indiana) while Ed served in the US Air Force. They finally settled in Wasco in 1975. The door at the Wasco house is always open and continues to be home to many.Barb valued family and education. Family gatherings were always a big part of her life. She loved to cook for everyone at all the holidays – especially at the annual Christmas party. One of the traditions that will continue, is the family vacations to Disney World in Florida. There have been so many great memories that have come from these trips. Many of Barb’s family followed in her footsteps when it came to education. Her children and grandchildren hold degrees including Bachelors, Master, Law, and even Doctorate. Her retirement years have focused on breeding, raising and traveling to dog shows. She was active in the Chicago Bulldog and Illiana Bulldog Clubs. She was always a gambling lady and "scratch and sniff" lottery tickets were a daily ritual.She recently had the opportunity to return to Puerto Rico Air Force Base with her husband Ed. A vacation she talked about for a long time and thoroughly enjoyed. She even spent one night at the hospital she used to work at, which is now a hotel.She is survived by her husband, Edwin; her sister Shirley Toppel of Elgin, IL; her 4 children: Edwin Dannewitz, Jr. of Knoxville, TN; Katherine (husband Larry) Cabai of Elgin, IL; Joseph (wife Michele) Dannewitz of St. Charles, IL; Mary (husband Dan) Clark of Wasco, IL; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild to be born in March 2015. She is preceded in death by her mother; her brother, Richard Anderson; her grandson, Edwin A. Dannewitz, III; and her daughter-in-law, Kimberly Dannewitz.Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Friday, September 26, 2014, at Grace Lutheran Church, 5N600 Hansen Rd., Lily Lake, IL. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be Saturday, September 27, also at the church, beginning at 6 p.m. Following cremation, private family burial will commence at a later date. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Friday, September 26, 2014, at Grace Lutheran Church, 5N600 Hansen Rd., Lily Lake, IL. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be Saturday, September 27, also at the church, beginning at 6 p.m.

Following cremation, private family burial will commence at a later date.
