BARBARA SNYDERAge 68 of Kaneville, IL, passed away Thursday evening, January 26, 2006 at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, IL. Refusing ever to surrender her grip on life, love and being "in charge", Barbara miraculously recovered her ability to breathe on her last day. She greeted all of her family with love and laughter and even wrote the checks to pay her bills. Then, just as quickly as her spirit seemed to have returned, she claimed the promise of her Savior and took her first breath of Heaven. BORN: She was born August 19, 1937 in Aurora, IL, the daughter of Alan Archer and Edith Mabel (Brackett) Phelps. Barbara grew up in Kaneville, and began high school in Maple Park, IL. Her junior and senior years were spent at West Aurora High School, however, where she graduated with the class of 1955.MARRIAGE On September 1, 1956, she was united in marriage to Harold E. "Bud" Snyder. They made their home on Aurora’s West Side for fifteen years but eventually returned to Kaneville where they settled in the present family home in 1971. She and "Bud" shared fifty years as husband and wife and thirty-four years as partners in "Steamgard Carpet Cleaners", their family business. It began as an extension of her husband’s dry cleaning business but Barbara would become the managing partner at the heart of it all. Her calm and friendly demeanor made easy friends with many customers and her no-nonsense efficiency managed both the business and her "boys", Bud, Brent and Andy. MEMBERSHIPS Barbara was an active member of the Kaneville Church and the Kaneville Historical Society for many years. She also enjoyed play Bridge with friends who were card-playing-companions for some forty years.LIFE NOTES The wife-and-mother side of Barbara was devoted to everything that stands for "family". She looked forward each year to trips with them to Door County; to fishing, playing cards and just sitting on the dock watching the sunset. At home, she loved her garden. Beautiful flowers adorned every corner of her yard and, in the middle, grew a huge vegetable garden where she also taught her grandchildren to pick blueberries. She spent hours canning the fruits of her garden labor and savored the smiles received when she served up a meal to her hard working family.
