BARBARA ANN ANDERSEN WOOD, age 75, of Maple Park, IL, passed away peacefully early Saturday, May 28, 2011, after a two year struggle with Leukemia. The last two years were but a mere page in the story of Barbara’s life. The daughter of William and Ruth Andersen, Barbara was born on Mary 18, 1936 and was raised in a loving home along with her sister Margaret. Growing up mainly in Chicago, Barbara was a 1954 graduate of Roosevelt High School. In 1966, Barbara married Raymond on June 25th. They raised their family in Villa Park, IL, for 11 years and then in St. Charles, IL for 26 more years. After the children were grown, Barb and Ray settled into their Maple Park home in 2003 for their quiet retirement and grandchild spoiling years. Barbara was a loving, nurturing mother, but she had more to give. In the midst of raising a family, in 1982, Barbara realized her dream of becoming a nurse when she graduated from Elgin Community College School of Nursing. Her career began at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield in the Cardiac Step-Down Unit and finished in 199 at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva as a Same-Day Surgery nurse. Barbara continued to socialize with her co-workers long after retiring in the Antique Nurse’s Association’s monthly gatherings at various restaurants. Along with her love of family, Barbara treasured her time spent at Conference Point Camp on Lake Geneva. She spent many a teenage summer there as a camper and camp family member and continued to visit to soak in the spiritual rejuvenation that it provided for her. Barbara’s artistic passions included painting, drawing up dreaem home floor plans, and tending to her landscape that surrounded her home with the beauty of her irises and lilacs. Above all else, Barbara was a woman that gave her heart and love, support and advice (wanted or not!) to family and friends and tried to allow God to guide her and lead a good Christian life. She touched so many lives and she will be deeply missed by all. She leaves behind a loving husband of 45 years, Raymond Wood; four devoted daughters: Debra Slater, Rita Gayman, Susan Metz and Kristen Johnson; Eight beautiful grandchildren ranging from 28 years to one year: Amy and Heather Slater, Charlotte, Jarod, Eric, and William Metz, Logan and Jordan Johnson; her sister and best friend, Margaret Alexander and an endless array of friends. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m., with a memorial service to follow visitation at Grace United Methodist Church in Maple Park, IL, on Friday, June 3, 2011. Rev. Eun Young Ko, pastor of the church, will officiate with private family interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to "Conference Point Center" with the memo reading "Barbara Wood Memorial Fund" and mailed to Conference Point Center, P.O. Box 575, Williams Bay, WI 53191.
