Beverly Kay Anderson’s spirit transitioned to its heavenly home on August 14, 2019. She was born to Donald and Dorothy (Owen) Murfin on October 16, 1946 in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Beverly was born a “social butterfly”. From childhood on, she was involved in multiple activities and organizations. To name a few…dance, synchronized swimming, multiple bands, several choirs, and orchestras.
In her 72 years, Beverly never encountered a stranger. She possessed an inviting spirit that built friendships, surely to outlast her untimely death. Bev had the ability to walk into a room full of strangers and leave with new friends.
Music was a constant throughout Beverly’s life. Her first introduction to music was from her father, who had a band in the 1930’s. Music was always part of their home life, as Bev would play the clarinet, her sister Cindi played the flute, their dad on piano, and their mother on vocals. Beverly’s love for music played an intricate role in several aspects of her life.
She married her husband, Loren Anderson, of 51 years and the two eventually relocated to Aurora, IL in 1970. Once the couple settled in, Beverly started teaching private music lessons. Unbeknown to her, Beverly would teach children music for over 49 years. Bev taught generations of West Aurora students and was known for her love of the clarinet, her passion for music education, and the high expectations she had for her students. Several of her students have become successful musicians, teachers, principals, and composers. The ability to teach was also present in her home, as she was a patient and loving mother to her children, Jennifer and Jason.
Beverly will be remembered most for her desire to live her life to the fullest. No matter the situation, she searched eagerly for the rainbow in the clouds.
Beverly is survived by her husband, Loren, who served as a pillar of strength and the epitome of love during her fight with cancer; her children Jennifer Anderson Ryan and Jason (Krystal) Anderson; two granddaughters Kelsey and Lauren Anderson; her sister Cindi Powell; her nephew Troy Powell; a brother-in-law Carl (Carol) Anderson; a daughter-in-law Allyson Anderson, and a large extended family of students, faculty, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Dorothy Murfin.
