CARL F. ANGENENDTAge 79 of Elburn, formerly of Peru, IL, passed away at his home, Thursday morning, September 1, 2005. His beloved wife, Barbara ever at his side, Carl fought his last battle with cancer and claimed the promise of heaven. BORN/ CHILDHOOD / EDUCATIONHe was born July 17, 1926, in Peru, IL the son of Carl J. and Emma (Gall) Angenendt. In fifth grade at the age of 10, he began playing drum for the school band. By high school, Carl had found his niche behind the huge bass drum. He had a natural gift for rhythm and a style that everyone loved, especially when the band went on parade. Carl graduated from LaSalle-Peru High School with the class of 1945, but continued to be the "heartbeat of the band" as he played in the Peru and Oglesby Municipal bands for many years.MARRIAGE When Carl met Barbara Kapke, he never had a chance. Barbara had prayed for a man like Carl and from the first date, she knew he was the answer to her prayers. The rest is a love story of forty-six years. They were wed on June 7, 1959 at the Trinity UCC Church, LaSalle where both were lifelong members. They made their home in the LaSalle-Peru area where Carl worked for the M & H Zinc Company and for Complete Industrial Enterprises. Barbara taught fifth grade and junior high in Peru until 1993 when she retired and they hit the road to "RV" full time. Speaking of their travels, Carl would often say, "we’ve gone from Key West, Florida, to Point Barrow, Alaska; from San Diego to the Maritime Provinces and just about every place in-between."When they left the road behind, they settled in Naples Florida where they lived from 1997 until 2003 when they moved to Elburn. There they could be close to their dear niece, Tammy Eckstrom, her husband John, and their children Amanda and Zachary. They were an inseparable family who worked, played and worshipped together. When Carl became ill, his days and nights were surrounded with love and the faithful visits of his adopted "grandchildren", Amanda and Zachary and their parents.
