Christian W. Slagle, 87, of Aurora passed from this life into eternal life on Sunday March 4, 2012 at Country Side Care Center in Aurora.BORN: Christian was born on March 28, 1924, in Summit New Jersey, the son of Christian and Agnes (Vernon) Slagle.EDUCATION: Christian graduated from the Buxton School in Short Hills, New Jersey with the graduating class of 1942. Later, he attended the University of Iowa where he earned his BA in Sociology. MILITARY: At the age of 18, Christian joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country for four years, which included two years overseas during WWII. During his service, Christian was part of the United States Navy Band, where he played the French horn. After his honorable discharge, Christian returned to civilian life in New York City. Christian moved a few times including Pier 92 in Midtown Manhattan and Greenwich.MARRIAGE:In 1955, during a trip to Phoenix Arizona, Christian met a young lady by the name of Violet Mitchell. On April fool’s day, Christian would ask Violet to be his wife. Before they knew it, the summer had come and gone and on September 10, 1955 they were married.RESIDENTIAL HISTORY: Shortly after their marriage, the newlyweds moved to New Jersey where they spent two years before moving to Oak Park, IL where they made their home for the next 42 years. In 1999, they moved once again, making their home in Geneva, IL.OCCUPATION / WORK HISTORY Christian worked for TWA airlines, in their promotions department before deciding to go into business for himself. Christian used the skills he had developed over the years and started his own advertisement company.MEMBERSHIPS (organizational names and cities of location, positions held and/or devotion to any church, fraternal, professional or political organization)LIFE NOTES Christian had a "green thumb" and spent endless hours tending to his garden. His love for music also extended beyond his days playing the French horn in the US Navy band. Christian also enjoyed playing the piano. His passion for music stemmed from his love of Jazz. When the weather allowed, Christian would set sail. Christian is best known for his love of family. He was a "super loving grandparent," loving father, and devoted husband. SURVIVORS Christian is survived by his wife Violet, 2 daughters:Allison (Terry) Lally of St. CharlesCynthia (Bob) Swift of Monument COOne son:Christian W.
