CLOYD L. "Bud" BUTTS,age 88, of Fairfield Bay, AR, formerly of Maple Park, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2008 at the Provena Pine View Care Center, St. Charles, where he had battled cancer since returning from Arkansas in July of this year.He was born March 29, 1920, the son of Claude and Dorthea (Bartels) Butts in Sycamore, IL. Cloyd grew up in various "hometowns" in Illinois and Iowa, attending local schools in each. Cloyd was drafted into service for his country in January of 1944. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1945. Upon returning to civilian life he worked at Woodstock Typewriter for a time before entering the fields as a farmer for 19 years. In 1966 he retired from farming and began working for Sheehan Implement in Sycamore eventually retiring from Anaconda, also in Sycamore. When Barbara retired in 1985, they built a home in Fairfield Bay, AR where they spent eight months of the year while enjoying their cabin in Wisconsin through the summer.He was united in marriage to Barbara Madsen on September 20, 1941 in Woodstock, IL. They began their new life together in Woodstock and several homes in DeKalb. Cloyd liked to tinker with his flower gardening and filled the landscape with various trees. When not in his garden, he loved to escape into the waters for a bit of fishing in Wisconsin. Cloyd also was a "Master Fixer" taking on any challenge that came his way. He also was a member of a Pinochle Club and enjoyed Shanghai as well. His happiest times found him in his wife’s arms on the dance floor moving to the sounds of the 40’s wherever they could. He now leaves his three children:Dale (Carolyn) Butts of Yorkville, ILDonna (Arthur) Maercker of Maple Park, IL andDenise (Michael) Rogers of DeKalb, ILSix grandchildren, nine great grandchildren,Two sisters:Dorothy Foster of MN,Helen Brooks of TX, And many nieces, nephews and a family of friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Barbara, and one brother-in-law, Galen Foster. Visitation will be from 11-12:45 Saturday August 30th, at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00. Interment will follow at Gardner Cemetery.
