David McCord, age 60, of Kaneville, IL, formerly of Shillington, PA, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018. He was born on May 24, 1957, in Motherwell, Scotland, to proud parents, Daniel and Mary (Dewar) McCord. At the age of 9, David and his family “crossed the pond” to Geneva, IL, where he continued his education. He graduated from Geneva High School with the class of 1976. Following graduation, Dave began working for Nash Electronics, but he found more than a job. Charlene McCarney caught his eye and then his heart. They were united in marriage in April 19, 1980 and began their new life together in Elburn. They eventually welcomed home three sons. The family moved to Kaneville in 1985. Eventually Dave and Char chose to walk separate paths, but David continued to make his home in Kaneville, IL. He then went back to school and received an Associate’s Degree in Applied Sciences from Kishwaukee Community College. For most of his life, David worked for Plastic Film in Wheaton until the company moved to Pennsylvania. David followed them until his retirement in 2009. He continued to live in Shillington, PA until declining health brought him back home to Kaneville, where he could be nearer to his family. David was proud of his sobriety and time in Alcoholics Anonymous. He was able to accept his 20 year chip and was only months away from receiving his 21st. Dave loved his sons; each in their own special way. Though he may have missed some of their growing up years, Dave made memories with each, sharing his passion for the Green Bay Packers, Blackhawks and the Bulls. Later in life, it was his grandchildren who gave him a second chance to be a part of their lives. Dave never took for granted each and every opportunity he could be with them. He had a stubborn streak a mile long and lived independently. Dave was a dedicated worker who never took a day off and was always the first to lend a hand to anyone in need. Deep sea fishing, riding the wave runner, SCUBA diving and basically anything that had to do with the water, called to him like no other. Classic cars and vans piqued his interest and he spent many hours, elbow deep in grease, alongside his son. Dave loved to drive, if only just for the trip, but most of the time he was on his way to help someone. If you wanted a guaranteed laugh, just turn on Moe, Larry and Curly because The Three Stooges kept him stitches. Dave had his share of struggles but he worked hard to overcome them and was proud of his accomplishments. He will be missed but never forgotten. He is survived by his mother, Mary McCord; three sons: Danny (Kelly) McCord, Bobby McCord and Steven McCord; three grandchildren: Madilyn McCord, Jacob McCord and William McCord; one sister, Carol (Greg) Anderson; one niece, several nephews and a family of friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Daniel McCord; one sister, Joan Todd and one brother, Bob McCord. Visitation will be Monday, February 19, 2018, from 4-6:30 p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 7 p.m., at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, IL 60119.
