David Siebert

David C. Siebert, age 66 of Yorkville, IL, formerly of Elburn, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday evening June 29, 2004 at Rush Copley Hospital, Aurora, where he had been admitted Monday due to an infection.BORN/ CITY & STATE/ PARENTS He was born, in Plattville, IL, November 13, 1937, the son of Carl and Ingrid (Michelson) Siebert.EARLY YEARS /EDUCATION David grew up in Yorkville where he attended Cross Lutheran Church School. In the early fifties, the family moved to Elburn where David graduated from high school with the class of 1955.MARRIAGE On June 30, 1956 David married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Jones. They made their home in California for a short time but soon returned to Illinois, settling in the Elburn-Kaneville area where they would share most of the next forty-eight years together. In the early nineties, David and "Bev" moved to their present family home in Yorkville. EMPLOYMENT As a young man, David worked with his father and his brothers Don, Tom and "Gordy", in Siebert Trucking, where he learned the business from the road up. In the early sixties, David went to work for CW Transport, Aurora where he drove for about ten years before taking a job with Borg Warner. At Borg Warner, David quickly moved from driving to selling and his skills began to show. The company sent him to Etters Pennsylvania to manage a terminal they had expected to close. Under David’s leadership, the failing terminal turned completely around in just four years.Returning to Illinois, David settled his family in Kaneville and he continued with BorgWarner where he became a district sales manager. When the company was acquired by North American Transportation in the early 90’s, they thought it was time for David to retire. Shortly thereafter, David began working with his son, Terry and his partner, Dan Nagel in their local trucking business. Friends from far and wide sought and found David and soon, his son’s company went nation wide across twenty-eight states. One of the secrets to David’s success was a demanding work-ethic that knew no bounds nor hours. The other secret was his appreciation of those worked for him and the customers he served. Always honest and forthright, no one every needed to wonder where David stood. His critical judgment demanded respect and his praise carried with it, the trust and support of a faithful defender.Among those who could count on his "faithful defense", were the Chicago Cubs! Especially in recent years, David loved going to the Bristol Tap and Ralph’s Restaurant where he swapped Cub stories over a game of cards. MEMBERSHIP (Organizations & Associations plus city and state if possible)David was a member of the Elburn Lion’s Club for many years and in the 1970’s helped start Elburn’s cross-town baseball league in Elburn.SURVIVORS – In addition to his wife, Beverly, of Yorkville, ILHe is survived by three children: Paula Siebert of Aurora, ILTerry Siebert of Bristol, IL andTrent (Dawn) Siebert of Sugar Grove, IL;Four grandchildren: Krista Siebert of Bristol, IL and Jake, Kylie and Tyler Siebert of Sugar Grove.;A daughter-in-law, Sarah Siebert of Yorkville, IL;Three siblings:Alice (Earl) Thompson of Yorkville, ILGordon "Gordy" (Mary) Siebert of Huntley, IL andTom (Chris) Siebert of Boulder Hill, IL;A sister and brother-in-law, Rick (Claudette) Liehr of Oswego, ILhis mother-in-law, Lois Gregory of Yorkville, IL Many nieces and nephews and a nation-wide family of friends.PRECEDEDDavid is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald (2004).MEMORIALSMemorials to the David Siebert Memorial Fund will benefit both the Heart and Lung Associations as well as other charities. VISITATION AND FUNERAL SERVICEVisitation will be held at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, Friday, July 2, 2004 from 3-8pm. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home Saturday morning at 10am.
