DAVID V. GRANQUIST, Age 68 of Wasco, IL passed away peacefully at Delnor Community Hospital, Geneva, Wednesday morning, May 18, 2005. Surrounded by the presence and prayers of his loving family and pastor, David came to the end of his long and courageous battle with cancer. BORN/ EARLY YEARS / EDUCATIONHe was born June 15, 1936 in Joliet, IL, the son of Verner B. and Edna Arnhold Granquist. The family farmed in Huntley and St. Charles for a time before settling in the Wasco area where David farmed with his father. MARRIAGE On February 23, 1957 David was united in marriage to Marjorie E. Piffner at the Grace Lutheran Church, Lily Lake. They farmed for Dexter Norton on Silver Glenn Rd. in the early years, and David also worked for the Elburn Co-Op and the Riverview Dairy for a time. For over thirty years he was employed with the Kane County Highway Department and, at one time or another, he drove for most of the rural trucking companies, including Siebert, Thomas Brothers and Stover Trucking. Retiring in 1998, David devoted himself to his family, his garden and his church. It seems he was always mowing somewhere; at church, at home or at his son’s home. His grandchildren Christopher and Matthew loved to help grandpa whenever he came to mow and Dustin always had a little candy to reward his grandpa! His back yard was a bountiful garden as well as a place where any bird could always find a free meal. Purple Martins were the privileged birds for whom David also made custom homes. He and Marjorie enjoyed several trips with church friends and made many traveling memories with them. Although recent years became an increasing struggle as health declined, David was never one to complain. He met his challenges the way he met all of life, he just kept working. Caring for those he loved, he forgot himself and drew strength from finding and sharing the best that each day had to offer.
