Dawn grew up in Batavia on her parents produce farm. She spent most of her childhood helping in the fields and at the market on Fabyan Parkway. Dawn started her education at Western Avenue School. Coultrap Middle school in Geneva was her next destination. She finished her studies at Geneva High School graduating in 1986.Dawn met the love of her life James Long in early 2012. They were united in holy matrimony at Grace Fellowship Church in Maple Park by Pastor James Harper on August 3rd 2013. Dawn spent several years in the blue grass state of Kentucky near Corbin. She moved back to be close to her family, living with her sister Karla in Batavia. When Dawn and James were married they lived on his farm in Kaneville. Dawn liked working with her hands, putting them to work refinishing, making, and installing cabinets with Nat, "the handy man". After returning to Illinois Dawn found her life’s work as a homemaker. That was until Dawn became a Grandmother. She took care of her granddaughter Leighton like only a grandmother could. Dawn was a devoted member of Grace Fellowship Church of Maple Park.Dawn was an avid gardener; she loved to plant flowers, vegetables, and tomatoes. A favorite pastime was throwing the Frisbee to her beloved Tanky Boy! Dawn liked to bake and cook for her family, she specialized in pies. Whatever was in season was the pie of the week in Dawn’s kitchen. She enjoyed watching cooking shows, where she picked up many recipe ideas for her family to try out. She truly appreciated any time she got to be around her friends, just hanging out, relaxing and talking. When she met Jim, one of their favorite things to do was to spend a quiet night at home watching movies, one of her favorites was" O Brother Where art Thou" starring George Clooney. She even snagged a copy from mom. She enjoyed the open road, when she lived in Kentucky she would call her sister Karla out of the blue and say "see you in 7 hours". 7 hours later you could hear her muffler coming up the driveway.
