Dennis Edward Osysko, age 64, of Cortland, passed away peacefully at his home in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 15, 2010 on the Assumption of our Blessed Mother Mary. BORN: He was born June 15, 1946 in Chicago, IL, the son of Edward and Frances (Wegloski) Osysko.EARLY YEARS:Dennis grew up in Chicago until his high school years when the family moved to St. Charles in 1961. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1964. EDUCATION: Dennis went on to attend Northern Illinois University. He began his 33 year career with the U.S.P.S. as a rural letter carrier for the St. Charles Post Office. Later he transferred to the Elburn Post Office until his retirement in 2001. MARRIAGE: Love can be found anywhere in the world. Dennis found the love of his life, Evangeline Evangelista from the Philippines. They were united in marriage in Hong Kong in 1989. Upon their return, they began their new life together in Cortland, IL, making Dennis’ house a home, creating thousands of memories during the next twenty-one years. MEMBERSHIPS: Dennis was a faithful member of S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Virgil as well as the BNP group in Chicago. He also served his church family as a Eucharistic Minister and on the Finance Committee as well. LIFE NOTES: Dennis’ garage was his kingdom and he was master of all he surveyed. Vintage cars were his passion, though in recent times he could be seen restoring a WW II Jeep in his "man cave". In the 1970’s, Dennis flew small planes through the skies of Du Page and De Kalb. When he wasn’t in the garage, Dennis loved to read anything and everything. From manuals to novels, he read them all but especially found comfort, solace and peace from his daily reading of the Bible. He also enjoyed traveling both here and abroad. Visiting Michigan City, Indiana to see his families homestead and acreage as well as his trips to Japan, Hawaii and the Philippines, brought a smile to his face and warmth to his heart. SURVIVORS: He leaves his wife Evangeline, One daughter, Mia Osysko of the Philippines, Two siblings:Kathleen (Bill) Wakefield of DeKalb and Edward (Susan) Osysko of St. Charles, IL;Sister-In-Law, Ellen (Michael) Kelly of Jacksonville, FL, Mother-in-law, Amelia Evangelista, as well as other in-laws in the Philippines, several cousins, nieces and nephews. PRECEDED:He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Frances Osysko, one cousin Theodore Werre, his father-in-law, one brother-in-law and his closest friend James O’Brien.VISITATION / FUNERAL Visitation will be from 9:30-10:45 a.m., Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Virgil, IL. A mass to celebrate his life will begin at 11 a.m. Fr. Perfecto Vasquez, pastor of the church, will officiate and private family interment will follow cremation at a later date.
