Dolores J. Adshade, age 79, of Chipley, FL, formerly Maple Park, IL, passed away in the quiet morning hours of Wednesday, May 4, 2016, surrounded by the love and prayers of her family, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Elgin, IL.

She was born April 4, 1937, in Chicago, the daughter of Warren and Dorothy Holm, although after her parents took different paths, she was adopted by her loving aunt and uncle, Russell and Juanita Thompson.

Dolores grew up in West Chicago and attended local schools. Following graduation, Dolores furthered her education in radiology, eventually becoming an x-ray technician at Sherman Hospital in Elgin for over twenty years. She did more than “assist” others, she “helped” people and dedicated her life to her craft. Even when it became clear that her job and the ever changing processes that were used in the dark room, were affecting her health and wellbeing, Dolores never stopped being the ray of sunlight to those lost in the sometimes dark corridors of healing. One of the reasons she was able to persevere was her work ethic, but moreover, the strong faith that sustained her even into the last days.

She and Charles Edward Adshade were united in marriage by A.W. Tozer, on June 21, 1958. They began their new life together as missionaries in Africa. They helped spread the Word of God to an un-churched people. She and Edward continued to share their faith, and live it, by welcoming home a son, Linleigh, while in Chingola, Zambia, what was once Northern Angola. They moved back to the United States, settling in Plato Center, IL, on what would become their own family farm. The family would grow to include two more boys, first Norm and later Derick who made the family complete. Dolores reveled in “farm life” and all that came with it. She enjoyed working in the garden and canning the bounty that came each summer and fall. She knit and sewed clothes for the family, especially Halloween costumes for her children. Her talents in the kitchen were the envy of many, especially when it came to her potato salad that was, if not world renowned, darn close to it. Dolores loved the countryside that came with a quiet calm that was only shattered when her beloved Chicago Cubs hit a home run. The Chicago Blackhawks also counted her among their fans. She will forever be remembered for her giving heart and self-less nature. Everyone else came first in her world, and it was a beautiful world that only the luckiest were able to live in.

She is survived by her husband Charles Edward Adshade; three children: Derick Adshade, Norm Adshade and Linleigh (Jessie) Adshade; five grandchildren: Lindsey Adshade, Michelle (Daniel) Williams, Christina Adshade, Ethan Adshade and Evan Adshade; two great-grandchildren: Lillian and Keegan Williams; one sister Marilyn Meade; several nieces, nephews and a family of friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Warren and Dorothy Holm; her adoptive parents, Col. Russell A. and Juanita E. Thompson; one sister, Diane Kammes and one grandson, Ian Adshade.
