DORIS M. NIER, age 95, of Kaneville, found everlasting peace in her heavenly home after passing away at home, surrounded by the love and prayers of her family in the early morning hours of January 20, 2013.BORN: She was born March 17, 1917, in Maple Park, IL the daughter of Amon I. and Cora M.(Gephart) Schroyer.EARLY YEARS : Doris grew up in Maple Park and attended school in a one room school house through eighth grade. She attended Elburn High School until her Junior year when her family moved to Kaneville. She graduated with the class of 1933 from Kaneville High School. MARRIAGE On November 26, 1936 was united in marriage to Arnold V. Nier at the home of her parents in Maple Park. They began their new life together in Kaneville and made a lifetime of memories before Arnold passed away in July of 1988.OCCUPATION / WORK HISTORY Doris had a strong work ethic and she put it use for 10 years at Furnas Electric. For most, cooking meals for their family, day in and day out, can be chore. Doris cooked for thousands of students at Kaneland High School for 13 years, serving up every meal with a smile. Although she cooked for thousands of students over the years, she enjoyed nothing more than cooking and baking for her family. Doris especially loved baking cookies for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When she wasn’t spending time in the kitchen, she could be found out in her garden. Arnold and Doris also traveled to nearly every state in the US throughout their years together. MEMBERSHIPS Doris was a long time member of the Kaneville United Methodist Church. SURVIVORS She is survived by two children:Karen (Leonard) Heinberg of Kaneville and Myron (Lenore) Nier of Hinckley5 Grandchildren:Steven (Stacy) of Hale, MO,Kimberly (Michael) Paulus of Sugar Grove, IL,Susan (Glenn) Acksel of Elburn, IL,Jeffrey (Cara) Nier of Hinckley and Mark (Bethany) Nier of Chilton, WIEleven great-grandchidlren?Drew Nier,Katie Nier,Chris Paulus,Ben Paulus,Nick Henne,Melanie Henne,Courtney Nier,Alex Nier,Mekenzie Nier, Harrison Nier andCorban Nier.PRECEDED She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Arnold, one son, Eugene, her daughter-in-law Sharon Nier and several siblings. VISITATION / FUNERAL Following cremation, there will be a graveside service at Kaneville Cemetery at a later date. MEMORIAL In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been made in her name to benefit the Kaneville United Methodist Church.
