Doris A. Schmidt, age 91 of Geneva formerly of Philadelphia, PA, unexpectedly went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at her home.
She was brought into this world on Friday, October 24, 1924 in Philadelphia to the parents of Frank and Florence Skilton.
Doris attended local Philadelphia schools and graduated from Simon Gratz High School.
She absolutely loved where she grew up in the area of 23rd and Venango Street in Philadelphia. After high school Doris worked at the Tasty Cake cupcake factory. While she couldn’t stand working the line, while there she did meet Frederick, the soon to be “Mr. Right.”
She married the love of her life Frederick Edward Schmidt, Sr. on April 17, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA. Fred and Doris were blessed to share 64 years together.
Doris worked as a homemaker raising her two children for most of her life. In addition, for 25 years she dedicated her life as a volunteer to Torresdale First Aid Corps. (now called the Northeast First Aid Corps.) in Philadelphia as a nurse and fund raising promoter.
Doris dedicated her life by tending to others and was the subject of a “ditty” her closest friends conjured up, “Nursey, Nursey hold my hand, While by the stretcher you do stand, No matter what the trouble is, Doris knows just what it is.”
Doris leaves behind her two sons Frederick E. (Phyllis) Schmidt, Jr., and Steven (Catherine) Schmidt, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She now joins her parents, husband Frederick, and four brothers and sisters.
The family politely asks no one to send flowers, instead they would like contributions to be sent to Royal Family Kids who help create positive memories for abused children. Checks may be sent directly to Royal Family Kids, 2300 South St., Geneva, IL 60134.
Tributes may also be forwarded to the Conley Funeral Home Facebook Page or visit www.conleycare.com.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 1:00PM at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
