NAME DOROTHY A. WOLD, age 87, of Sandwich, passed away at Provena Geneva Care Center, Geneva in the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 22, 2009. BORN: She was born August 16, 1922, the daughter of Mont and Lizzie (Freyling) Albert in Brandon, IA. EARLY YEARS:Dorothy grew up in Jesup, IA and attended local schools. She graduated with the class of 1940 from Jesup Consolidated High School. EDUCATION: Following graduation, Dorothy attended nursing school, graduating as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Burlington, IA. Using her degree, she worked locally for a time before moving to Elmhurst, IL, to help her sister Wilma. MARRIAGE: It was during this time she met the man she would marry, Edwin Wold. He found Dorothy working behind a soda fountain and before long they fell in love and began a new life together on October 23, 1942. RESIDENTIAL HISTORY: Shortly after, Edwin served his country in the Navy and upon his return to civilian life, they made their home in Elmhurst. They soon moved to w/infield where they lived for 40 years, raising their six children. This is also when Dorothy began her 45 year career at Community Hospital in Geneva, IL caring for the hundreds of newborns she helped bring into this world. Dorothy worked straight through the Delnor and Community Hospital merger and retired in 1995.MEMBERSHIPS: She was a proud and very active member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She also was a member and organist for twenty-five years at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Winfield, IL. LIFE NOTES: Dorothy loved to knit and sew everything under the sun. From baby clothes, afghans and wedding gowns, nothing was too big or too small for Dorothy’s hands to make. Her garden was filled with everything from flowers to vegetables and her table was always laden with its bounty. SURVIVORS: She now leaves six children:Edwin Wold of Sandwich, IL, Doug (Jan) Wold of Ft. Myers, FL, Dennis (Jill) Wold of Aurora, IL, Penny (Jeff) Janacek of Batavia, IL, Dee (Pat) Dodd of Batavia, IL, and Mark (Jenny) Wold of Elburn;15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, Four siblings:Alberta Collins of Montclair, CA,John Albert of Pharr, TX, Dale Albert of Adel, IA, and June Zhiss of Guttenburg, IA;Many nieces, nephews, cousins and a family of friends. PRECEDED:She now joins her parents, her husband Edwin, one sister, Wilma Jensen and one brother Donald Albert who preceded her in death. VISITATION / FUNERAL Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2009 at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, IL. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 10 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Lee Rd., Hinckley, IL. Rev. Donald Balgeman, pastor of the church, will officiate and interment will follow at River Hills Cemetery, Batavia, IL. MEMORIAL In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her name to benefit Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. Checks may be made to the "Dorothy Wold Memorial" and mailed in care of P.O. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2009 at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, IL. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 10 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Lee Rd., Hinckley, IL. Rev. Donald Balgeman, pastor of the church, will officiate.

Interment will follow at River Hills Cemetery, Batavia, IL.
