E. Jeanette Dieckman, age 76, of Batavia, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017 surrounded by family at her home at The Holmstad-Park Manor in Batavia.

Jeanette was born January 13, 1941 in West Point, Nebraska, the daughter of Carl John Edwin and Ruth (Persson) Landholm.

As the youngest of five children in Oakland, NE, growing up on the family farm brought great joy to Jeanette. So much so, that when it was time for her dad to take her to school she refused to step foot outside of the car, even to the extent of locking him out so he couldn’t drag her in. This one stubborn Swede was putting the other to the test. Jeanette could not understand why she had to go to school when her love was being a happy kid on the farm.

As a proud graduate of Oakland High School, class of 1959, Jeanette then attended Immanuel Lutheran Hospital Nurses Training in Omaha, NE where she received her nursing license.

While on their way back from a bible camp, Jeanette and some friends stopped to rest at a church in Aurora, Nebraska. This is where Jeanette’s roommate’s boyfriend introduced her to a young man who would soon be her forever love. Jeanette married Larry Dwayne Dieckman on July 8, 1967 at the First Covenant Church in Omaha, Nebraska.

Jeanette served as a Registered Nurse full-time for about 6 years until her first son came along. Although she may have stepped away from nursing full-time, Jeanette was proud to keep up her nurse’s license until 1976 when she gladly transitioned into her next career. After Larry graduated from seminary, Jeanette served at her husband’s side as a pastor’s wife in communities across Colorado, California and Nebraska from 1976-1992. In 1992, the family moved to Illinois where Jeanette went to work for Delnor Home Health Care as an aide until her retirement in 2006.

As an active member of Covenant Womens, the denomination’s auxiliary, Jeanette held many positions. No matter the role, she never wanted to be in the spotlight, and was content working behind the scenes making sure events and meetings ran smoothly. Jeanette and Larry are current members of the Country Ev. Covenant Church in Campton Hills and love being involved there.

As a stay at home mother, Jeanette drew upon her childhood farming experiences to make things work with what she had. A needle and thread is to where she turned when her family needed clothing and the garden when they needed food. Jeanette had a beautiful garden of vegetables and flowers at every home they lived while they served the church. Later in life she took up knitting. Jeanette became so proficient at sewing and knitting, that she was able to send many handmade clothing items and blankets overseas to less fortunate countries as a part of the Covenant Women’s group. Every year for Christmas and their birthdays she would knit a pair of socks for her family. Jeanette loved keeping up with her family and sisters, and absolutely adored spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years; Larry, three loving children; William (Sandra) Dieckman, Amy (David) Seedorf, Jonathan (Jennifer) Dieckman, two grandchildren; Matthew and Callie Dieckman, two sisters; Ruth “Elizabeth” Merritt, Lois Swanson and one sister-in-law; Sharon Landholm.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers; Norman Landholm, Charles Landholm.
