NAME Edward "Ed" R. Dowling, age 59, of Hampshire, IL, passed away on October 15, 2006 at Provena St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elgin. BORN: He was born September 20, 1947, the son of James and Florence (Hertel) Dowling in Evanston, IL. EARLY YEARS: Ed grew up in Elgin and attended local schools, graduating from Larkin High School in 1966. Following graduation, Ed was drafted into the United States Army where he specialized in Atomic Demolition. He served his country in Korea and was eventually honorably discharged on June 7, 1969. EDUCATION: Upon his return to civilian life he attended DeVry Institute in Chicago where he obtained a bachelors degree in Electronic Engineering. He began working for Illinois Bell Telephone Company in 1972 until 1985. He then worked for School District 300 as bus driver for many years. MARRIAGE Ed married his wife Judy Bielenberg on June 30, 1973 in Chicago, IL. They began their new life together in Elgin until 1986 when they moved to Hampshire where they have since made their home. MEMBERSHIPS Ed was a Boy Scout leader while living in Elgin and was also a member of the Fox Valley Saddle Association. SURVIVORS He now leaves his wife Judy, His daughter Didi (Theo) Jackanicz of Woodstock, IL;One sister Mary Miller and family of Elgin, IL;One brother James (Edith) Dowling and family of Keller, TX;One Uncle Ed Hertel of Northbrook, IL;Several cousins, nieces, nephews and a family of friends. PRECEDED He now joins his parents and one niece, Melanie Gill who preceded him in death. MEMORIAL In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name. VISITATION / FUNERAL Friends may call from 5-7 p.m .with a memorial service to follow at 7:30p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, IL. Private family interment will follow at a later date.
