ELSIE ISABEL, Age 70 of Sheriden, IL, passed away September 28, 2005 at Provena Mercy Center Hospital, Aurora where she had recently been in hospice care.BORN / EARLY YEARS She was born August 13, 1935 in Virgil Twp, the daughter of Robert W. and Margaret S. (Kirchman) Butt Sr. Elsie grew up in Virgil, IL where she attended S.S. Peter & Paul Schools and graduated from Maple Park High School class of 1954. As a youngster, she learned to work with her hands as she spent many hours helping her dad. It paid off in high school shop class where Elsie made a cedar chest that became the prize posession of her life. After high school she worked at the Elgin Watch Factory for a time and worked as a waitress at the Farm Restaurant, Wasco and later at the Elburn Kountry Kettle. OCCUPATION / MARRIAGEThrough the years, many people in the Sycamore area came to know Elsie as she worked at Westlake’s Truck Stop, the Sip and Dip and the Busy Bee. In 1970, however, she was working at Gene’s Chicken Carry-Out in Hinckley when Lonnie Isabel came to visit her boss, a old friend from years back. Lonnie left with the "chic" as well as the sandwich and began dating Elsie. On October 2, 1971, Elsie and Lonnie were married and made their home in Virgil.RESIDENTIAL HISTORY: Dan, Elsie’s young son, bonded strongly with Lonnie and in 1972, Jeff was born. Serious complications followed for Elsie as she was hospitalized for the next two months, but her stout heritage helped bring her back to health and the following year, they moved to Leland, IL. In the years that followed they lived in Plano and Sandwich for a time before returning to Virgil in 1985. In 1990, they moved to Sheridan where they built the present family home in 1992. LIFE NOTES Elsie and Lonnie loved camping with family and friends and stories abound of those escapades. She was lucky at cards and gambling and enjoyed visits to casinos in Illinois, Wisconsin and of course, Las Vegas. She was a regular at Bingo in Plano, Sandwich and Newark, to name a few. More recently, hampered by declining health, Elsie played casino games on her computer. Her luck held and she won millions of pretend-dollars that none-the-less, gave her great pride and joy.
