ESTHER R. WINTER, age 89 of St. Charles, passed away peacefully, early Saturday morning, January 3, 2004 at the Rosewood Care Center, St. Charles, ILShe was born October 25, 1914 in St. Charles, IL, the daugher of Harry and Mary (Geske) Crawford. Esther grew up in St. Charles where she graduated from high school with the class of 1932, Following high school, Esther began working as a secretary for the Watson Insurance Agency, Geneva, IL On November 15, 1937, she was united in marriage to Arthur C. Johnson and they made their home in Geneva. Following Arthur’s death in 1953, Esther made her home with her parents in St. Charles for a time until July of 1962, when she was united in marriage to Lester Dale Winter. Following his death in 1992, Esther retired to Asbury Court in Aurora where she lived until 1999 when she became a resident at the Rosewood Care Center, St. Charles. LIFE NOTESIn later years, Esther began painting in watercolor while at Asbury Court and while living at the Rosewood Care Center, she enjoyed cards and served on the resident’s council.SURVIVORSShe is survived by one brother, Howard (Norma) Crawford, of Elburn;two nieces: Susan (Jerry) Black of Geneva, IL andWendy Crawford of Carpentersville, ILand one great nephew, Christopher Black andthree great nieces: Julie (Adam) Nicolai andKatie and Maggie Gessert.as well as many friends a the Rosewood Care Center.PRECEDEDShe is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Arthur and Lester,one sister Dorothy Crawford, and one sister-in-law, Jeanne Crawford. Memorials in her name may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
SERVICESThere will be no public services.
Private committal services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Geneva following cremation.
