Fern Patterson, Age 90 of Sugar Grove, passed away Friday, May 26 at her home after a long and unrelenting battle with cancer, a broken back and a host of complications. To the very last, the feisty spirit that so characterized Fern’s life, kept her striving to live until her Savior came to take her home. BORN / EARLY YEARSShe was born November 3, 1915 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Roy S. and Lillian L. (Burdick) Erwin. Her family moved from Chicago to Sandwich when Fern was a baby and she grew up in the Kendall County area where she attended schools in Yorkville. MARRIAGE & FAMILYFollowing her marriage to Kenneth L. Patterson on January 20, 1932, they made their home in Aurora until 1941 when they moved to Batavia. In 1962, they built a new home on Rt. 47 near Elburn and remained there until Kenneth passed away in 1988. The following year, Fern moved to Sugar Grove.OCCUPATION / WORK HISTORY For some twenty years, Fern worked as a cashier in the produce department of the Aurora Jewel Food Store. Energetic and outgoing, she volunteered countless hours to her church, the Eastern Star and other community organizations. MEMBERSHIPSFern’s faith was an important part of her life and she was an active member of the Fox Valley Bible Church for many years. As a long time member of the Eastern Star, Fox Valley Chapter #265 she served as Worthy Matron five times. She was also a member and past president of the Elburn Sunset Swingers and the Women’s Auxiliary of the Batavia VFW Post #1197. SURVIVORS She is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Edith) Patterson of Batavia, ILOne brother, Stanley (Doris) Erwin of Arkansas,Two granddaughters:Sharon Patterson of Geneva, IL and Cynthia (Jason) DeWitt of Springboro, OH,Several nephews including:Daniel Moore of Florida, James (Lisa) Erwin of North Aurora andLester (Rebecca) Erwin of Aurora.(note to media – other nephews could not be verified by press time)Four great nephews:James Erwin Jr., Kyle and Eric Erwin andLester Erwin Jr.;Three great nieces:Chrissie, Fallon and Nicole Erwin;PRECEDED She joins now her parents, Roy and Lillian Erwin, her beloved husband, Kenneth and one brother, James Erwin in infancy.MEMORIAL A memorial has been established in Fern’s name to benefit the Village Bible Church. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2006 from 5-8om at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn and Thursday morning prior to the service from 9am-9:45am..Funeral services will be held at 10am, June 1, 2006 at the funeral home. The Rev. James Harper, dear friend and former pastor of the Village Bible Church, will officiate.

Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Cemetery, Elgin.
