Ferne Ethleen Conley, 91, of Batavia, formerly of Geneva and West Chicago, IL, died May 11, 2017, at Michealsen Health Center in Batavia, IL.
Ferne Ethleen McMurray was born on September 6, 1925, on the family farm near Liberty, Nebraska. The daughter of Herbert and Grace (McNutt) McMurrary. After graduating from College View High School in Lincoln, Ferne moved to Illinois where she worked in the Kane County Recorder’s Office beginning in 1944. In 1945, she married Ralph Eugene Conley in Elburn. They raised their three children in Geneva and West Chicago. Ralph and Ferne opened Conley Pharmacy in 1960 in West Chicago. While in West Chicago, Ferne was active in PTA at Turner School and West Chicago Junior High School. After moving back to Geneva in 1980, Ferne became very involved in her family’s genealogy. She compiled volumes of family history and information. Ferne’s sense of family could be seen in the traditions she cherished, like personalized Christmas stockings for every family member.
Ferne is survived by her three children, Pamela Kautz, Philip (Melissa) Conley and Roger (Debora) Conley; five grandchildren, Sandra (Richard) Echternacht, Robert Kautz, Ryan Conley, Kelli Conley and Gavin (Christina) Hayes; and four great-grandchildren, Connor and Ethan Echternacht and Jordan and Eli Hayes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of almost 70 years Ralph; her son-in-law Richard Kautz; her great-grandson Noah Echternacht; her siblings and their spouses, Winifred (Charles) Conley and Ruth (George) McCloud.
At Ferne’s request, private, family services have already been held at Conley Funeral Home in Elburn, Illinois. Interment will be at Blackberry Cemetery at a later date.
Ferne requested no flowers, however contributions to the charity of your choice are appreciated.
