George “Butch” Whildin III, age 66, of Rochelle, IL, formerly of Sycamore, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, January 17, 2016, at O.S. F. St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford, IL.
He was born March 25, 1949, the son of George Jr. and Evelyn (Tatters) Whildin, in Aurora, IL. The legacy of that name would not continue to the next generation, but their birthdays would. George Jr., Butch and Jacob all shared the same birthday.
Butch grew up in Sugar Grove and attended local schools. Although he went through junior high at Kaneland, he graduated high school from Burlington-Central in 1967.
His college education was born in Florida before enlisting in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Anchorage, AK. He proudly served his country from 1969 until his honorable discharge in 1973. Butch returned to civilian life in Maple Park and finished his education and received his nursing degree at Kishwaukee Community College.
He was united in marriage to Beverly Samet on September 18, 1982. They began their new life together in Sycamore where they were blessed with a son, Jake, in 1983.
After Butch and Beverly parted ways in 2004, Butch made his home in Rochelle.
Butch worked at O.S.F. St. Anthony Medical Center and Sycamore Hospital for many years. Most recently, Butch worked as a case manager on the insurance side of nursing with The Hartford in Aurora.

Butch was a proud member of the Sycamore American Legion, Post #99 and was past Commander at the Maple Park American Legion, Post # 312. Butch was also a member of Federated Church in Sycamore.
Butch always loved the outdoors, doing yard work and having the miles fly by while riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle with friends and family to different locations throughout the country. He held his own in the kitchen, but his specialty was desserts. He loved his family and also had a special place in his heart for Baron, his black lab and faithful companion. In his younger years, Butch was “king of the countryside” while riding on his favorite snowmobile.
He is survived by his son Jake (Rebecca) Whildin; three siblings: Michael (Bonnie) Whildin, Wendy (Don) Collins and Debra Holman; many nieces, nephews, a friend, Kevin Zink, and a countryside of friends, not to mention Baron, his black lab and faithful companion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Jr. and Evelyn and one brother Andy Whildin.
